Babies: 3 - 6 Months

tourrets?

I know this probably sounds really dumb but other first time moms can probably agree that you worry about every little thing. My daughter is almost six months old and she randomly moves her arm as if she is slapping her knee over and over a few times. And all I can think of is what if she has tourrets? Is it possible this young or is it just something that babies do?

Thanks for baring with me through my dumb question

Re: tourrets?

  • I think she is fine! It takes a long time for babies/kids to get gross motor control. She is probably discovering something new, etc. My son used to head butt the wall many times in a row at 18 mos but it was no concern apparently. Babies seek rhythm too so who knows but IMO it's not tourrets.

You should have stopped right there.  And you were doing so well with not  posting stuff like this for such a long time!

No but seriously, its probably Parkinson's.

You apparently haven't read about 300 posts exactly like this one from the op.

  • Thanks ladies who stood up for me. Im sorry but if you don't like what I post, don't read it. It's that simple. The bump is an online community that moms can go to safetly for answers from other moms. Not where you should have to worry about posting "the wrong thing". And I don't really appreciate the joke about my daughter having parkinson's disease.
  • this is normal baby behavior.  But seriously use google as your friend.   No one diagnoses babies with this.

I'm not a medical doctor but babies brains and central nervous systems are still developing. My son will do things like you described. Typically the onset of Tourette's is between the ages of 3-6 years old. If there is something your daughter is doing that really seems unusual or that your gut tells you is not right, talk to your pediatrician. Your pediatrician can evaluate your daughters behavior and movements to tell you if there is reason for concern or not.  GL

Thank you very much for the real and sincere answer. I very much appreciate it!
