split custody after birth

I'm new to the board!  A bit about me and my situation: My husband (we are in the process of separating) and I are very civil and are still best friends we just feel a break might do us some good.  We both want to be involved in our daughter's life and want to be great parents together.

I was just wondering those of you who have the baby's father still in the picture, how are you splitting the custody the weeks after your baby is born?

Re: split custody after birth

  • It will depend a lot upon your feeding choice. I don't know legally how it works for under 6 weeks of age. From my experience LO's father had a key and he came over whenever he wanted to during my maternity leave to see LO. He came over on his lunch break, after work, weekends.... He stayed with LO for my PP appointment and kept LO when I did some errands, mostly under 4 hours. When I went back to work LO was in day care from 730-5. He came over after work a few times a week to see her and spend several hours on sat morning with her. Once we move past the 3-4 month range things are different. I would say if you are legally separating then it should be spelled out in the paperwork.

  • I wish you the best and are in my prayers what was civil turned sour very quick. I am a mother and I got every other weekend and have to pay child support. Lawyer up and trust your gut.

I'm really worried about it turning sour... if you don't mind me asking what grounds did the judge have that they ruled that you get every other weekend?

  • I lost my job and he proved me as not being stable it was a disaster and sad to say he is a horrible dad its not fair its all about money and whos lawyer is better
