Baby yeast infection?

My DD is 7mos and for almost a week now I've been trying to treat what I thought was a diaper rash. After doing some research online, I'm thinking it might be a yeast infection. Doctor is shut down for the holiday, so I can't call til Wednesday. Anyone out there encounter this with a child around this age? What OTC treatments did you try. She's in great spirits and doesn't appear to be bothered by it, but looks pretty bad.

  • If it's yeast you'll probably need a Rx. Nystatin is a pretty common topical that takes care of it. Does your pedi have an answering service so someone can call it in for you?

  • DS has one. The advice nurse dx it over the phone. She has us using Lotrimin AF 3x daily with diaper cream over that. We have to use it for at least 10 days. We're also supposed to do more bare cheek time, but I am guilty of not doing it as often as we should.

  • You can also give her baking soda baths. A good handful in warm water and let her tush air dry.

  • Our dr had us use athletes foot cream, it cleared up in just a couple days.

  • When I spoke with a pharmacist for a mild yeast diaper rash, they got me to buy regular hydrocortisone cream and generic canestan (sp?) to mix together 50/50. It works well. It's not as strong as a prescription cream though.
