Passport craziness

When we tried to get DS his passport, we didn't realize how strange it would be. He was born in Scotland and is a UK citizen but not eligible for a UK passport because both his parents are Canadian. He can get one when he is old enough to apply by himself. He is not eligible for a Canadian passport until he is a Canadian citizen. It will take over a year to get his Canadian citizenship. This didn't look good for wanting to take him to meet his Grandpa in March.

At last there was some nice person at the passport office that called us to set up a temporary Canadian passport. So glad he called us but we nearly fell over with the shock that there was someone useful at the Canadian passport office.

Now all we have to do is apply for a VISA so he can re enter the country he is a citizen of. I hope that goes smoothly so we can surprise my Dad in March on his birthday.

    Hey fellow expat! I can't believe it takes at long to get his Canadian citizenship. We were able to get Oliver's certificate of a foreign birth, social security number and passport all at the same time, and it took three weeks to arrive from the time of our appointment at the US embassy, so I just assumed it was that quick for other countries as well. Happy they were able to sort out an emergency passport for you.

    Wow, that's so quick! Canada passport just seems to have a bunch of stupidity built in.
