We started LO doing rice cereal but when the news reported the arsenic article we decided to switch to oatmeal. The oatmeal didn't seem to agree with LO.
Is anyone just doing meat, fruits, and veggies? That's what we are doing now.
We skipped the cereal and oatmeal and went straight to fruits and veggies. Pedi said it was perfectly fine to do so.

We skipped the rice cereal for that reason, although we *occassionally* give her plain rice. I did give her some oatmeal, but she seems to get an upset tummy from it and her belly breaks out...I give her meat (either very finely ground or big chunks that she cannot swallow, but sucks and chews) to make sure that she gets iron.
My ped informed me that introducing cereal and oatmeal gets the infant used to carbs so we stopped the carbs all together and are only doing fruits/veggies. We will be introducing meats this week.
we did some oatmeal at first, in her bottle, to get her set up for some more purees, but once we started purees she stopped liking oatmeal all together. she won't eat it at all, and she stopped taking a bottle too, thank god i am EBFing.

We skipped it. Sometimes I will add a tablespoon of rice cereal or oatmeal to thicken a puree that's too thin but never on it's own. It doesn't have as much nutritional value as other purees so I guess I just don't see the point.
We skipped it. We started purees late anyways and she is doing just fine with the fruits veggies and lots of breastfeeding still. Pedi was fine with it.

What does this mean? Is there a problem with a baby eating carbs?
I skipped the rice for the arsenic reasons as well. My LO loved oatmeal but was allergic to it (body broke out in severe eczema). So now he eats Quinoa. I buy organic quinoa flakes, cook them, then puree them. It smells and tastes icky to me, but my LO loves it. I mix it with fruit or a veggie.

We skipped rice cereal because of the arsenic issue. We went to oatmeal, then barley, and then mixed grains. We alternate now.
MY LO loves barley the most.
