s/o SAHM

The most recent lurker turned poster is a SW turned SAHM.  It got me thinking... what is everyone else doing?  I don't remember this ever being discussed, but I could be losing my mind.

So...let's hear it.  What are you doing?  Are you returning to work?  Did you work before and are now a SAHM?  Were you a SAHM before? or any other scenario I didn't mention.

Re: s/o SAHM

  • I am returning to work on Jan 7th.  I've been off for 14 weeks total including the 4 before LO was born.  I am extremely jealous of those who are SAHMs.

  • I was working before, but am now a SAHM. Part of me would love to still be working or to go back to school but I can't afford child care.

I'm a SAHM/full time college student. Online schooling is wonderful. Eventually I think I want to be a counselor, but for now school and baby only.

I never noticed your ticker before because I usually mobile bump...but my daughter was born the same size as me as well -- 7lbs 11ozs.  We also had the same birthday.

  • I went back to work last Thursday. I have no interest in being a SAHM not that there is anything wrong with it, it's just not for me. We have a wonderful daycare provider that loves my kids so that helps :)

This. Only I worked until 2 days before LO was born. I do not want to go back to work. Only 18 more months and 2 days until I can be a SAHM, but who's counting and its not soon enough.

  • I worked full time before, will return to work full time Jan 14, giving me 13 weeks off. I will be able to work from home on Wednesdays though, so I really appreciate that about my job.

I'd love to work part time, maybe like 25-30 hours a week. But my company doesn't offer that (we're all ft salary) and our lifestyle isn't cut out for me to have a lower waged part time job.

  • I've been on mat leave for 11 weeks and supposed to return to work this week. I love my job but can't stand the thought of returning to work and leaveing LO. Since we've basically been living off of DH salary for the last 2 mo we decided with a few changes in spending habits I would stay home for at least a year.

  • I love my job but get to stay home with DS until next Oct or Nov because we live in Canada. I will return full time then.

I am jealous of you!  Do you get paid the entire time?

I started a new job working 3 days a week 8 months in to my pregnancy.  At 4 weeks PP, I returned to work for only 10-18hours/week.  Starting in January, I will go up to 2.5 days/week until work gets busy, then maybe back to the 3 full days/week.  I think 3 or maybe 4 days a week is ideal for me.  Financially, we cannot swing that, plus I really love my career.  However, I would hate to leave LO 5 days/week to daycare. So 3-4 days/week would be perfect I think.

  • I had a full time job as a commodities trader before, but I'm currently SAHM. We moved while I was pg so we now live in my hometown. Starting in January I will work from home for the family company. I'll go into work 1 day a week , but bring LO with me. LO will start preschool at 18 months and then I will start working more FT .

  • I've been a SAHM since April when we moved away from my

job. DH went to school in FL for 2 months while DS1 and I

stayed with my parents in PA. Moved to GA in June, so I

didn't bother looking for a new job. Before we moved, I was

only working 3 days a week, 15 hours a week total, and it

was so perfect. I also liked my job and made extremely good

money, so we could afford a part time nanny.  I wish I could

find the same sweet deal here, but there's really nothing. I did

however just apply for a full time job on base working with the

Army so we'll see what happens. I don't really want to work

full time, but I feel like I need to stay fresh. The pay would be

a huge cut as we'll, but at least I could get a start in government

    work.

  • I've been a SAHM for a little over a year. I had planned to find a new job after I quit my job a year ago, but then I got pregnant and it didn't make sense.

I plan to look for a job sometime in the spring or summer. I'm not cut out to be a SAHM forever. I will work part time.

Since DS1 was born, I've worked both full and part time as well as stayed home and feel like part time worked best for me.

  • I am now a SAHM but before this lo I worked full-time. unfortunately we can not afford to put the kids in daycare and I haven't found anyone else I can trust to watch them so for now not returning but kinda wishing I could so that we had more money to get by with.

  • I have been a SAHM since DD1 was born two years ago. I will continue this until the twins are two. We can't really afford to have all three in child care. Plus I like staying home for the most part. Some days I would love to go back to work for daily adult interaction/conversation. But I'm thankful that I can spend this time with them.

  • I have worked part time since DS1 was born. I go back on Jan 13, and will do two 12 hour night shifts per week. I waiver between wanting to stay home full time, and also loving my job as a RN. I really have no complaints because my mom watches my kids for free at my house, so I know they are fine. Having a few hours of adult interaction away from the kiddos helps me maintain my sanity. And the money is great, lol!
  • I returned to work Friday after 12 weeks of leave. Really wish I had the choice to stay at home, but there was no way I could make our budget work. Hoping as LO becomes more independent, I will find pockets of time to turn my side jobs into something I could leave my desk job for. That and I keep telling DH to hurry up and double his salary already :) or maybe if we played the lottery...

  • I return jan 22 after 12 weeks maternity and an extra week of vacation I carried from 2012. I was also off 6 weeks before delivery. I am absolutely dreading it and sick to my stomach thinking about leaving LO. I already asked my manager for an internal transfer because I had a high stress job working 1011 hour days, with a 1.5 hour commute each way, which is just not reasonable with a baby. Hopefully something will come up before I return. Either way I am very jealous of SAHMs!!

  • I'll be returning back to my nursing job part time, hopefully late feb. I wish I could stay home, it breaks my heart that someone else gets to spend so much time with her. I never thought I'd feel like this, I used to love work.

  • I left my full time banker job to be a SAHM. It's going to be interesting making the budget work but I am sure we can manage. The cable isn't a necessity, nor is eating out 2 to 3x a week.

  • I had a full time job until the day before I delivered. I am now a SAHM. The origional plan was for me to take a year off but now it looks like I may be able to take off longer.

  • I was working ft but we decide I would be a SAHM. We couldn't afford child care. Plus I really wanted to stay home. Things are super tight right now but DH is up for a promotion soon and we'll be able to breathe a lot easier.

  • I had just quit my cashier position in December of last year so I can look for a new/better job since I was finally done with traveling back and forth to Serbia. I thought I'd find a job and get pregnant in the same minth a few weeks apart. Who know getting pregnant was the easier option for me. My job hunting is resuming after the new year. I am hoping either a small bank as a teller but will also be takung exams for government and state jobs.

Yes, but only about 55 percent and then a top up from my company for the first 17 weeks.

  • I am currently working, but will be leaving my job come mid-January.  I plan to work part-time if i can.  We had a lot of problems finding daycare with 3 different nanny shares falling through.  Not to mention, we are just not okay with using my entire paycheck for someone else to raise our child.

  • I am a SAHM and plan to be for quite a while, we plan on having a second child before I turn 30, so in the next 3-4 years. I was a stay at home wife while pregnant as well since I had severe morning sickness throughout. I did help out at my husbands office as a receptionist for about two months while they looked for a full time employee. I have always wanted to be a SAHM and my DH agreed, I feel really lucky that we are able to make this work.
