Probably a stupid question...

Ok so here is the info to lead up to my probably stupid question. I have never been on the pill before. My doctor gave me a prescription at my 6 week check up and told me I could start taking it then even though I hadn't had a PP periods yet. So I have been on it for two weeks now and last Thursday I had a colposcopy and a biopsy done. I had some bleeding but not too much on Friday. Then yesterday and today I have been bleeding more and having period type cramps. I am wondering if this my period starting or if this is just from the biopsy. And if this is my period is that normal for it to start even though I have been taking the pill? I might call my doctor tomorrow just to ask them too.

Re: Probably a stupid question...

  • I am kind of surprised that your doctor told you to start your pills before you had your first pp period.  My doctor told me to start my pills the Sunday following my period. And she did tell me that I would probably have some spotting while getting back on the pill.

You might want to call your doctor just in case, it can't hurt to make the call.

  • I started the mini pill before my first pp period and I started spotting a week later - no real period yet.

With DS1, I didn't start my period until 10 months pp.  It's still possible to get pregnant even if you have not gotten your period....so, important to start the pill prior to getting your first pp period.

  • I had the same biopsy and the samples that they take are so small that you wouldn't still be bleeding from that. Since you did start your pills it's probably your period starting to get into a cycle. Same thing happened to me. Although still call your doc and ask :-)

Yep, I didn't plan on starting until I got my first pp period after DS1, and that's how DS2 got here...

  • I called my doctor and after 16 minutes waiting for the nurse to answer she was very short with me and acted like I was stupid. She said that it is probably breakthrough bleeding and that it might continue the next month but to call them if it continues at the three month mark.
