Air duct cleaning question

Have y'all done it? How long and loud is it?

We have local coupons here, but I'm not sure what exactly what we need.

(Back story: kid with snot, no fever, 4 months now, meds don't help.I have cleaned and froze all things.)

There's a full on one for $300, then there's another one for $50...I am confused.

I appreciate any and all info you have if you've done this.

I've priced it out but not actually done it. Never got around to scheduling it, I guess. The $300 is the right range for what it sounds like you're looking for. And actually, it costs more like $400 around here, so you'd be getting a nice deal, IMO.

Thank you, doll. You have been forgiven for the blood-bath-family-pic! Big Smile

  • I owned a carpet cleaning /air duct cleaning business with my ex husband.

I don't know a whole lot about what other companies do (he was the expert... I just went along on jobs and handled the business end),  but I can tell you that there is a huge variation in price because most likely the $50 company is going to try to up-sell you on all sorts of crap. NOT ALWAYS,  as we would often run specials and the prices would be low,  but generally, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

When we would do a job, it was loud, but nothing terrible.  We would go room to room and clean out individual vents, but a lot of companies will just work from the basement.  Depends on the company.

I will say that I'm not 100% of the science behind whether or not it helps kids with allergies, etc.,  but I know that we would pull a CRAP ton of nastiness out of vents.   It will also help your air run better and more efficiently if you have an older house.

Have the ducts ever been cleaned?  Honestly, new construction is the worst because the contractors will often leave all sorts of drywall crap in the vents.  They just sweep their trash into the vents when they're cleaning up (nice, huh?)

    This is awesome. Thanks, Kris!

  • We had it done this summer (sounds like for the same reason as you.). It was kind of loud, but dd napped through it until they got to her room, and the guy showed us what looked like mold, so they did a deeper clean and installed some light thing that is supposed to prevent it coming back.  Tbh, at the time I felt like it was a scam, but DH thought we should do it...it cost a lot more than we were planning on paying and we felt pressured to go ahead and do everything he suggested, bc they were already there in our vents, and they looked really gross.  Also, dd has been sniffly for about 75% of her life.  She has been better, as have I.  However, if I had known then that freaking everything else in our house was about to break or need maintenance, we wouldn't have done it.
