Hello Ladies,
I need your help to help my baby transition to a better feeding schedule ....
Currently, he will take in solids - 3 times during the day...BM for about 4 - 5 times during the day and during night -
He feeds BM and then he is off to sleep at 9 pm ...Wakes up every 3 hours for drinking BM - 12 am / 3 am / 6 am and is finally up for the day at 7 :30 am ..
He takes BM and sleeps off really fast - so no sleep issues ( hence i have allowed for it to go for so long )
I am a working mum ( but from home ) and work load will increase in 2013...So a good night's sleep will help ...
So, please advice me on :
1. How to up his take at 9 pm before sleep so he wakes up only 1 during night ? I am okay to feed him 4 - 5 times in day ( but I would like to pump every morning if possible and the helper can feed him while i work )
( he doesnt take bottle / sippy cup - have tried all nipples / bottles / with BM / Formula - Nothing only Mommy's breast ...While he LOVVVED bottles when he was 2 - 3 months )
2. His solid diet is 2 fruit purees / 1 cereal with Formula ...Don't want to increase this bit ...
TIA
( And a very Happy New Year )
Re: Need your help for my 6.5 month old boy ..
Try posting this on the bfing board. They are so knowledgeable and helpful. They really helped me a lot when I was bfing .
Also my pedi says that sttn correlates not with their age but their weight. He told me that with DD she can go about 8 hours and then will need to be fed. This helped me to realize that and now she sleeps from 8 to 4 and I feed her and then she sleeps till 8 .
I don't know if upping his 9PM feed will necessarily help him wake up only once. I think, in a way, he is "trained" to wake up those other times and has created an association with waking up and nursing. Unfortunately, I think you are going to have to break this association by dropping at least one of those nursings and make it about comforting in other ways and slowly drop more through the weeks.
My ped said 1-2 times up a night is okay until they are about 9 months old, so it seems he is up way too much.
I would suggest reading the Ferber method book, not necessarily to implement the strategy, but to understand the sleep association that has been created.
For DD, we feed her solids at 6:30 a 4-6 oz bottle at 7:15 and then put her down for the night at 7:30. She usually wakes once before 6:30AM, so I go ahead and feed her.
