mspi, how to avoid soy

Sorry if this was titled odd but I cant figure out how to title it correctly.

I have been dairy and soy free for ten weeks now and I have been avoiding all soy, including soy oil and soy lecithin. I didnt realize they were a fat and not the protein. So what I am not sure about is how do I know what soy is safe and what isnt since all I have ever really seen on packaging is oil or lecithin.

Re: mspi, how to avoid soy

  • Most babies are okay with soybean oil and lecithin, but some do have issues with them. I avoided it all for months, but have found that my lo who is very reactive to me eating a couple soybeans does fine with both. I just avoid soybeans, soy protein, vegetable oil, soy sauce, soy flour and tofu for the most part. If your lo has been symptom free for a couple weeks, I would say go ahead and trial them. The only issue is that they often accompany a boatload of other ingredients in procesed food, so they are hard to isolate for a trial. Gl!

Eta: I also avoid natural flavoring, but will let it slide on occasion when there is no other option. So far, so good.

  • DS has a soy allergy, but is okay with soy oil and soy lecithin. We do avoid expeller pressed soy oil (which is not very common) because the process does not remove all of the protein (according to the info from the allergist).
