Has anyone had experience BW with a LO in a helmet? If so, what wrap is best? He is just about to outgrow his moby anyways, so I was looking for something for the next "phase". He is 7 months, about 21 lbs. He is gross motor delayed, so still need something with support.
TIA for the advice!

Re: BW with helmet
If you like wrapping, a woven wrap is the same style as a Moby without the weight restrictions.
Other options would be an Ergo or a mei tai. I really like both; the Ergo is bulkier but comfy to wear a long time, especially on my back. The mei tai is more adjustable and holds baby snugger, and they tend to be prettier.

I have a Bjorn as well, would either of those wraps you mentioned leave room for the helmet you think? I am definitely out of my comfort zone dealing with the helmet issue... LOL

My son had skull surgery at 5 months old and wore a helmet for 3 months afterwards. I had a Pretty Momma Sling and I loved it. It holds a baby up to 35 pounds, which was more than enough for my little guy! I used it for him, comfortably, until a year. It offers good support and its adjustable. Another feature I liked, is if he fell asleep in the sling, I could ease it off of me and lay him down in it, in his crib. My sling cost about 100 dollars but was well worth it. I used it for both my babies and I'm now expecting my third and it's still in great shape. My son had some gross motor issues but now at 5 he is doing very well. Hang in there!
A Bjorn is generally pretty uncomfortable with an older baby.
With the age of your child, I would think most carriers would have the head kind of above the carrier. I don't think a helmet would be a problem. You could search to see if there is a baby wearing group in your city - that's a great way to try on a variety without buying things that don't work.

Thanks, I will see if I can't find any groups around here, I checked before DS was born, and being a working mom, it didn't fit in the schedule, but maybe something new has popped up. I think I remember someone saying store in the city offered you to try them out etc.
The Bjorn is definitely losing it's comfort, I prefer the Moby- but that is even less comfortable than the Bjorn at this point. Maybe I'm a wimp... LOL
I think a ring sling of some sorts is where we are headed. My only concern will be if/when he falls asleep while I am wearing, will the helmet fit comfortably in the hold. The moby, IMO would not leave enough room for a helmet, even if it were still the best wrap for him at this point.
I am going to miss my moby dearly, I LOVE it. And we fly a LOT, so I want something that is easy for travel, airports, etc. That is why I avoided ring slings in the past, since they have metal on them, whereas the moby and bjorn, do not set off the metal detectors, and I am able to wear him thru security. I have not tried a ring sling thru TSA, but a girlfriend (and the internet) told me I would have to take him out. Since I fly alone, this makes it mucho harder on me. Am I mistaken on that aspect of them? Sorry for the million questions!
Thanks for all the advice ladies, it is definitely pointing me in the right direction!

Does he have any tone issues? My boys have hypertonia and they had issues with the beco butterfly because of how wide it spread their legs. The Beco Gemini has a narrow setting and works much better for them. But to be honest, I love my ring sling. It helps with babies that don't hold themselves up well, and is so easy to get on and off.
DS1 didn't sit up until 18 months crawled at 21 months.
His tone issues stem more in the neck region vs lower body. He does have low tonal muscle diagnosis, in addition to the torticollis/plagio/macrocephaly and gross motor delay. He is not sitting up either, 7.5 months- we are currently in PT once a week, plus at home excercises. I have not noticed any problems as far as legs/hips, but part of his issue is that he prefers to be stiff as a board (straight out, arms and legs not bent), so we do a lot of hip exercises, so that is good to know for sure. Thanks for sharing, it's nice to hear that other people have "survived" the slower development too.
