Trying to Get Pregnant

Tilted uterus?

Anyone ever told this before? Did your gyn ever say it would be a problem? Now that we're TTC, I've just remembered that she told me this. But I'm pretty sure she said it wouldn't be a problem.  TIA

Re: Tilted uterus?

  • My mom's is tilted.  She had my sister and me without any problems!
  • Loading the player...
  • I have an inverted uterus, as far as I've read and from what my doctor has told me... it should not cause any problems with TTC, though it may cause some difficulties while giving birth.

?P.s. Tilted and inverted (& retroverted) are all different things, or at least this is what I have been told. As far as a tilted uterus, which I've been told I have as well (though I was always under the impression it was the same thing as inverted), should cause no issues with TTC or childbirth.

    ?

    HTH.?

  • I have had two doctors tell me I have a tilted cervix (?) or maybe uterus, I'm not sure.  They both said it would not be a problem ttc.
  • one of my girlfriends had a tilted uterus and they told her she had to have a csection because of it... she got ku the first month off bcp. sl she did not have a problem!! gl
  • I read on another board tonight that you can get more UTI's because of it...

That doesn't make sense unless she had other issues because a tilted uterus corrects itself around 10 weeks in pregnancy.  I have a retroverted uterus and have had no problems TTC or being pregnant.  Some people do say that "doggie style" with TTC helps, not sure if there is any merit to that ;)

BTW, here is what the Mayo Clinic says:

    https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tilted-uterus/AN00461

In the past, it was thought that a tilted uterus may contribute to infertility. But it's now known that the position of the uterus doesn't affect the ability of sperm to reach an egg.

    From TressGrec:

I am not sure that is true. My doctors have always used tilted and retroverted interchangeably. From the American Pregnancy Organizations:

What other terms are used to describe a tipped uterus?

There are many alternate ways of referring to a tipped uterus. However, all of the terms mean that the uterus is tipped backwards toward the back of the pelvis.

    Common terms include:

    • Retroflexed uterus
    • Tilted uterus
    • Backward uterus
    • Retroverted uterus
    • Tilted womb

  • not to be stupid but isn't that what they said Charlotte had on Sex in the City?
  • I have one too...my OBGYN said it should not effect TTC.
  • Btw, I wanted to add that my best friend said she had the same thing, and someone (her mother) had told her that the best position for conception was doggy style.  Not sure it matters all that much, but there you go. :)
