Rice cereal

How many of you are skipping rice cereal and going straight to oatmeal due to arsenic in rice. Im thinking i may do this...

We never used the rice cereal, but not because of the arsenic issue. Didn't have any issue, but we don't use a lot.

Yup. Sorry I wasn't clear. Pedi said starting with oatmeal was no issue.

We did. You might have got this from my comment on the other food post. You can make it just as runny. But I followed the advice of my pedi.

Im gonna discuss with my pedi but the papers they gave me do list rice first

Lots of babies have eaten rice. I am sure we all did. If I would have skipped it arsenic would not have been the reason. That said they have a tablespoon and a half in every bottle and would be starving without it.

All my papers listed it first too. It was just something she mentioned as we were talking about starting solids.

We went right to oatmeal. As long as it's a single grain cereal (rice, oatmeal, barley, etc), it should be fine. We told our ped at his 4 month appointment yesterday and she was fine with it.

We are skipping rice and not starting any solid until at least 6 months. We EBF and since there is no nutritional value in rice cereal, we don't want her to fill up on it and then not want to nurse.

we are. the pediatrician pointed out that this study may eventually be disproven, but in the meantime, she recommended that we play it safe and go straight to oatmeal when we start.

We skipped cereal all together. It has no nutritional value and constipated DS.
