What formula can we use?

I have EP'd for 8 mos. and my supply is having a hard time keeping up. DS is allergic to dairy and soy and is intolerant to corn. When I need to supplement what can I use? Anything?

He woke at 4 am starving and I was out of milk in the fridge and I have zero freezer stash so I had to pump while he cried for 10 min and then he was up for the day after all that.

  • Enfamil Nutramigen or Similac Alimentum are used when dairy and soy are both issues. The stuff is really expensive, though. Any possibility of giving your LO more solids to offset the supply issues? Might be a lot cheaper.

  • He's not wild about solid food yet. He eats maybe 5 bites twice a day. And he'll only eat bananas. We're working on it but its slow going.

  • How do you know he's allergic to dairy and soy?

A lot of babies begin to outgrow their intolerances so if you don't want to try the expensive stuff then Similac Sensitive is a good place to start.

  • Similac Ready to Feed Alimentum.  The ready to feed doesn't have corn in it, the powder does.

  • My little man is on similac alimentum for milk protein intolerance. We got a letter of necessity from the GI specialist and insurance is covering 70 of it.

He has blood in his poop if I eat dairy or soy and projectile vomits.  If I eat corn, nuts or rice he's gassy and cries a lot.  We are working with a pediatric GI on these issues but I was just looking for a quick answer as to what formula we could use since it's a weekend and a holiday.  The Alimentum RTF seems like our only option- we'll see if he'll actually eat it!
