XP: activities for 2-y.o. birthday party?

DD is turning 2 next month, and we're having a party for her. I'm a little unsure of what we should do as far as activities/games. Most of the guests will be between 2 and 3, but there will be a couple kids there in the 4-6 age range. Any ideas? I know the younger kids aren't ready to grasp the concept of true party games, but I don't want the older kids to be totally bored. TIA!

  • I'm not big on games for this age.  They will probably be happy playing all together in your home/at the venue.  I have one friend who has a ball toss game (get the ball through the hole).  That's fairly simple enough I'd think - or maybe toss something into a bucket, ect.  that sort of thing.

I remember this as a game from my childhood.  We stood ona stool and had to drop a cloths peg into a sour cream container.  I remember it being fun.  It could be a ball in a mop bucket or something at that age.  Arts and crafts might be a fun party activity at that age.  That would be something they can take home as part of their loot bag as well.

  • Thanks for the ideas! I agree that the little ones will probably be happy to just run around, but I just wanted to have something for the older kids. The ball drop game idea sounds fun!

  • You could do one where you line up 3 buckets, different colors, and they have to stand back and throw bean bags into the buckets. You could do points for each color (so like the furthest bucket would be the most points) and they could win prizes for earning points.

    there's always pin the tail!

  • I made a fishing game with an blow up infant pool.  We did tattoos and had a table for coloring.  If you have some kind of theme you can print out sheets from the computer.

  • My DD is turning 2 soon, so I have been planning as well. I think we are going to do stations of activities that the kids can choose to visit. Two year-olds are all over the place so I figured setting up stations with adults at the stations would make it organized chaos. There will be tattoo/face painting, a blow-up baby pool that I am going to fill with balls, a bubble machine going with individual bubble containers nearby, a small kids pop-up tent set up for them to play in, and, as someone else mentioned, I'm painting a big piece of cardboard to match our theme and I'm going to make cut-outs for the children to look thru and take pictures. The only activity that I am going to have everyone do at the same time is going to be the pinata. Other than that, I'm going to have the stuff set up and just let the kids find whatever activity suits them.

  • I'm sure you can adapt these to a girls party somehow but we didn't do games we did "activities".. we had a car theme so we did a car wash (balloons hanging from crepe paper from the ceiling) you could call it something else and use girly colors.. i also made cars from boxes and covered them with white paper and let the kids color them. you could have stencils out for the older kids or stickers? you could make them princess-y or something like that.

that's all that we did because we had the CARS movie playing and ate food, cake, and did gifts.. that filled up the 2 hours!

     good luck!
