Anyone definitely not doing it? Anyone definitely doing it? Anyone still on the fence? My mom didn't with me or my brothers, and DH and I are considering not having it done. I'd have to have it done during my second appointment (January 7th) because I'll already be 11w3d-ish (between 11-12 weeks, right? correct me if I'm wrong!). Just looking for some different opinions, since we still haven't totally made up our minds
Re: CVS Test?
You didn't offer any particular history on why you would need CVS. Are you over 35, because this test isn't routine for most women.
There are less invasive tests and procedures even if you are over 35, like screening bloodwork first and then consider an amnio if there are any major concerns. With CVS, the risk of miscarriage is not high (1/300 reportedly) but it is higher than with amnio.
This. Only if a nonevasive test showed a concern.
I haven't had one but my friend/coworker had one done with both her pregnancies. Her first pregnancy she had an NT scan in which the results came back with a 1 in 30 chance of downs. She opted for the CVS test that day and it came back negative. Then a few years later she was pregnant with twins and just skipped right to the CVS test...which I heard is risky for twins. I guess the miscarriage rate is about the same as an amnio but it's done ealier. This site says it's about 1 in 100, and riskier if it's done through the cervix as opposed through the abdomen.

eta: different sites, different stats but the risks are obviously there.
