Anyone else with a slow developer?

My LO is a bigger baby 99% in height and weight. Our pedi said that his development may be slower because he so much more weight to hold up. He is no where near to sitting unassisted. He rolls everywhere as his movement. My mom tells me to enjoy it and I am trying but I just wish he could sit up. We are still bathing him in his newborn tub and he is getting to big, we tried sitting him up but he just fell over to the side. Anyone else go through this?

DD is 95th percentile for height and weight . She just got good at holding herself upright in a sitting position after she hit seven months. It still tires her out to hold herself like that for too long and she'll usually lean over on purpose to lay down when she's had enough.

She's nowhere near crawling yet and was later than many babies to roll well. They'll catch up eventually! For now, I'm just glad I don't have to babyproof until after Christmas.

We just started using an inflatable tub for her and it's a good size for her to be able to support herself on the sides and back of it sitting. Plus she can lay back and use her feet to push against the end of the tub without going under water. We got the Munchkin ducky tub from BRU. It's about 15, less with one of their 20 percent off coupons.

I agree enjoy it, Lucas is 90 for hight and 20 for weight and has been crawling for ever, he is into everything!!! I can't turn my back for a minute since he can pull up and creep on the furniture so nothing is safe. 20 years from now no ones going to care at what age your lo sat or crawled.

I wouldnt say that you have a slow developer but your LO may very well just be lazy!

DS has been off the charts since he was 3 months old. At 4 months he was 21 lbs so he is quite a big boy, not chunky but very solid we have got a little football player it seems. He was very lazy until about 5 1/2 months and I swear its like every new skill he developed overnight. He would never roll over and suddenly he wakes up one morning and wants to do nothing but roll over. Wouldnt sit up and then suddenly he was sitting up balancing himself marvelously. He just started crawling this past Wednesday. Its not even like he tried and couldnt do these things...it really is as if he just decided "well this laying around doing nothing thing is getting to be pretty boring, I might as well just roll/sit up/crawl."

Your LO will do these things when he is ready, so I wouldn't stress over it.

ELF4321- thanks for mentioning the tub, most of the ones I see online look like the baby needs to be able to sit unassisted.

I know he is getting there, he does try.....he just needs the trunk strength. And I am sure once he gets it I'll be going nuts chasing him.

Our ds can sit well unassisted and hasn't tried crawling. He has rolled a handful of times, but doesn't roll like other babies I see at dc. I don't consider him slow, just a bit lazy.

We also have the ducky tub and ds just lounges in it. He loves it.

DS is 95% for height. He's sitting well (although still throws himself backwards unexpectedly), but he's never in his life rolled or even attempted to scooch himself anywhere.I keep telling myself it's ok, he's working on his fine motor skills instead. I've also had lot's of people tell me to just enjoy it, he'll be fine and offering me anecdotal stories of how their kids never crawled but turned out fine. So I'm trying to be calm.

My nephew was like this. 95% across the board. He didn?t crawl until close to his 1st birthday and then walked at 14 months. I just wanted to say that my SIL was obsessed with getting him to walk and it just made me very sad. Instead of enjoying him she was constantly walking around with him trying to teach him to walk. Just the other day she made a comment that he was an embarrassment walking at 14 months since my lo ?looks like? he will walk well before the 1 yr mark. Please please don?t become like that.

First, I want to encourage you to speak up if you do feel that something is wrong. DS has been officially diagnosed as Gross Motor Delayed, and is in PT once a week now. (We were in PT early on for his torticollis, but have had to up the frequency in addition to at home excercises. )

He is also in the top percentiles in all measurements. So much so, that his 6 mth head measurement landed him a diagnosis of macrocephaly and an emergency ultrasound to ensure there is no hydrocephaly to blame for this (we got the all clear, thankfully!!).

While "most" times, you are right, babies develop at different speeds, and do different things at different ages, I think a lot of times, we are told to just wait and see. Or at least I was, which is why I think its important to speak up. Hopefully, it's just a stage that passes, but I would familiarize yourself with what things that baby "should" be doing be 9 months for sure, so that you can go to his check up prepared.

I am also very frustrated with the bath situation, it is amplified by the fact that his head turns severely to one side, so it's impossible to get enough water in the tub, without having at least one ear under water.

Hoping that your LO moves fast soon, I understand your frustration!
