TMI post--I hate that I have to do this...

Okay so I had my nurse appt back on December 3rd--the whole medical history thing, what are your symptoms, now go give some blood appt. One of my symptoms then was some vaginal discharge (clearish/white-ish) and itching. The nurse said, "oh it's probably nothing but normal discharge. And that can just cause some normal itching if it sits in your underwear/panty liner". That kind of made sense to me I guess, since I don't have the itching all the time like I have from a yeast infection--I actually only itch when I go pee & wipe. But then it itches like CRAZY.

So here I am on Dec 28th, and I'm still dealing with it. Is this still "normal"? Now I noticed some light pink blood when I wiped and I think it's because I've become so irritated w/ the discharge/itching. I'm seriously going crazy with it. I have a call in to my nurse line to see what they say, but apparently they're super busy tonight because I haven't heard back in forever.

Is this the kind of thing that I would typically call my family doctor about if I need to make an appt for it? Or do I call my OB (whom I haven't met yet)? My first appt w/ my OB isn't until Jan 17th--I was hoping to wait until then, but I don't think I can anymore. The itching just sucks!

  • It is very, very common to have an increase in vaginal discharge throughout pregnancy. I wore panty liners during my entire pregnancy with DS. It's one of those unpleasant symptoms that no one talks about.

As far as the pink spotting,  have you had sex recently? That could explain the spotting. I'd keep an eye on it and if you see red blood (more than just a streak, actual bleeding), I'd call your OB.

ETA: If you do think it's a yeast infection, you can treat it with OTC Monistat.

  • I've been dealing with this, too..reminds me of a yeast infection that doesn't ever get really bad, but also doesnt go away.. always flares up at night.. I've been taking a probiotic tablet daily and that has almost completely eliminated the problem.  Also, I try to sleep commando on occasion wearing loose fitting pants..

Eta:  read PPs post and reminded me.. I also stopped using an antibacterial soap.. Used to use Dial and after doing some research, saw ppl suggesting against that.. Warm baths were a savior... But, if its yeasty at all, be careful because though they bring relief, they can actually cause the yeast to thrive.. Yeast grows best in warm climates!

  • If it is not a yeast infection, I'd use a little vagisil. It's not uncommon to get irritation down there that causes itchiness.

  • Apart from what everyone else says, go with boring cotton undies during the day (I second commando at night).

  • I had the worst itching! I would literally wake up in the night scratching myself, it was so terrible. The only thing that worked for me was shaving my ladybits every day in the shower. I found that even the smallest hair growth down there was extremely irritating! After doing this regularly, I haven't had a problem since.
