So for the last three days my son won't go to sleep unless he screams at the top of his lungs for 2 hours. He is a little sick. Has had a cold for 7 days. Cough, stuffy nose. Doctor said no ear or sinus infection. But now even naps take close to 2 hours to go down for and then he wakes himself coughing or crying after a few minutes. We try rocking, holding, walking, feeding, and finally give up and have just let him scream. I feel like a horrible mom because I can't make him stop. He has been a great sleeper for months. Now all of a sudden it's awful. I have lost my patience and don't know what to do. Sorry for rambling but he is currently screaming upstairs with his door closed as I sit here and bawl on the couch. What can I do? We are using Vicks and humidifier. Nothing seems to make him feel Better. :. Please help a mama at her wits end.
Re: I don't know what to do...
i am so sorry you are going through this... poor little guy. i am questioning if there is something else wrong with your little guy.... especially since you said this is not like him... teeth, maybe or reflux??
i am not one to medicate, but whenever my LO personality changes for a long period of time, i always think teeth... usually a little tylenol and i see a BIG difference.
just a thought, although it may not be the case at all. hope things get better for you super soon!!
Goodbye little angel(7/22/2011)....see you in heaven
Goodbye my second angel (9/18/2011)
Maybe he's going through a wonder week while dealing with a cold/possibly teething? Babies are so new to this world must be overwhelming. Heck I still get overwhelmed, must be rough for them for sure ;
Depending on when you first took him in I would get his ears rechecked. My LO is very happy and a good sleeper, but she was fighting a cold and really fussy/not sleeping well so I took her in and it turns out she has a double ear infection. Trust your "mommy instinct" and bring him back in if he isn't getting better. The pressure from laying flat can be really painful for them.
I also try not to medicate, but if she just isn't herself and seems really uncomfortable I will give tylenol.
