Baby name opinions!

Hi! My husband and I are expecting our second child. Our 1 1/2 year old son is named Kysen William Reed, and we were wanting something just as different for the next little bundle. So far, for a girl, we have:

Emmy and Lirah (Lyra)

Middle names include Cathlene, Elizabeth, Louise, and Faye.

My husband likes Mason for a boy, but I'm not so sure. The middle name would include either James or Henry, after his father, since our first born's middle name is my fathers name.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Baby name opinions!

  • I love Kysen and Emmy together! For some reason I'm really digging Emmy Louise, which I didn't think I would! As for Mason, I think it's too popular of a name, since you wanted something just as different as Kysen (which I LOVE).

  • Mason is fine.  Emmy and Lyra I would go back to the drawing board.  Unfortunately it's too late for Kysen.
  • Emmy Louise was my favorite of the options! I agree that Mason is too popular. We came up with Kysen by mixing two names (Karsen and Isaac), but we aren't having much luck this time around :( My family is VERY opinionated and hated "Kysen" when we told them, but it has grown on them.

I pretty much thought this before reading it.

  • Everyone has different tastes, which is fine, but I absolutely LOVE the name Kysen. I didn't ask for an opinion on my son's name, but thank you for your input anyway.
  • NMS but I would go with Emmy Cathlene and I love Mason, boy or girl name.

  • There is nothing wrong with those spellings. I really didn't put much thought into that. Cathleen is just as good of a spelling as any. I think I actually prefer it that way.

Whoa ladies. Picking on a kid's name after the fact is pretty harsh, no?

OP, I don't care for the girls names but I think Mason Henry would be great.

All of this, but I think I like Henry Mason to be honest :)

    +1.

FWIW, OP, my kids don't have very "traditional" first names, but I gave them more traditional middle names in case they wanted to use something more "mainstream" when they got older (Charles & Annabella). So IMO, I don't think your choices are bad at all.

My favorite is Lirah Elizabeth or Mason James.

    Finally! Thank you for that!

I don't mind Mason Henry... It does have a nice ring to it! It's definitely my husbands favorite by far.

You are the first ot like Lirah! It is a combo of our mother's names, Lisa and Deborah :)

I also like Lirah Elizabeth and Mason James.  However, Lirah Reed doesn't have the best flow, IMO.  But take that with a grain of salt, I am personally having major issues finding girl names that flow well with our last name so I'm pretty fixated on that, haha.  Also, my maiden name is Read so that will more than likely be the middle name if we have a girl Wink

I also like PPs suggestion of Emmy Louise.

  • I am not a huge fan of Mason and it sounds way too much like Kysen.  It would make me all tongue tied.

I think Emmy is okay but I prefer it as a nickname for Emma or Emily.

This... for the boy.  Too rhymy with Kysen.  But Emma and Emily are on the top 10 popular names right now, so not very original.  Lirah is pretty.

  • I'm partial to Emmy because one of my good friends from high school just gave her daughter that name.

As far as boys, I agree with a lot of the PP's that said Mason is too popular and I'd try to stay away from names that rhyme.  (And also the thought of Mason James just make me think of Twilight, both names being from the series and all.)

To each their own. If you like it, that's all that matters.

DH and my family all want me to name this future baby, if it's a girl, Dylan. I know the world on here will throw me to the wolves about naming a girl that, but I don't really care, it's on my list.  I cringe at the names that other people find acceptable. It's not up to others, it's up to you.

To answer your question, I like both of your girl names.  I'm not a fan of Mason personally, but that doesn't mean it isn't an okay name. Its just NMS

I really like Dylan for a girl name. There is a little girl at the daycare I work at names Dillyn, and yes, it's a bit different for a girl, but still adorable! I am personally not a fan of Mason either. I'm trying to convince my husband that there are other great names out there!
