I need some help. I just moved to Baldwinsville and am looking for a new OBGYN. My husband and I are ttc and I wanted to meet with a doctor. Can anyone recommened someone or a facility they like? Thank you.
Where are you planning on delivering? Oswego? Syracuse? I'm from Oswego originally but know a lot of people that deliver in Syracuse. I might be able to give you a few names and suggestions.
I live in Baldwinsville, so was looking at places in the Syracuse area. I see alot of adds for St. Joseph's Hospital and Associates for Women's Medicine. I just don't know where the best places is. Any suggestions you can give me would be helpful. Thank you so much.
My sister went through Dr. Brown who delivers at St, Joseph's Hospital. His office is on Rte 11 in North Syracuse (aka Main St.) These are the two phone numbers I found as well: 315-701-0500; 315-452-2323. Hope this helps.
Hi, I live in Baldwinsville also! I went through associates for women on rt 11 and I am pretty happy with them. Doesn;t really matter which doctor you start with because you're going to see all of them. And chances are that the doctor you start with isn't going to deliver for you. So with that said, I would have been happy with any of them delivering for me. Dr Boen ended up delivering and I had never met him because he usually is at the downtown office. But I was still happy. St joes was a great hospital. THe nurses were angels. Very helpful and you can tell that they have all been there a long time. Hope this helps!
We go to Dr. Suzanne Bartol. She is located in the city of Syracuse on Irving ave. not exactly sure what her practice is called but she is excellent. I've been going to see her for all my obgyn appts since I was 18 and now she is taking care of me while I'm pregnant. Highly recommended.
Another place to think about is Crouse hospital. This hospital has the only Nicu in the area. This gives you a nice piece of mind for the just in case. If you delivered at another hospital and something is wrong with your baby youwold stay at the other hospital while your baby is transferred to Crouse. Just something to think about
Wow! Thank you everybody that responded. It gave me a lot of options and a better idea where to go. The only thing that I am worried about is that alot of you say that I will see a different doctor every time I go in for a visit. How is that a good thing? I feel like each time I see a new doctor I will have to start over and get to know them again and explain whats going on. I have a few medical issues from when I was younger and will need a doctor to understand my situation and help me out. Does anybody else worry about seeing a different doctor each time? What was your experience like?
I'm new to this board but thought I'd put in my two cents.
You ask a good question. Like one of the previous posters, my OBGYNs are Drs. Loftus, Ryu, and Bartol. I think they're all wonderful, but Dr. Bartol is the one who delivered my baby in August. I started with Dr. Ryu before I got pregnant, but I ended up seeing each of the doctors several times over the course of my pregnancy. Looking back on it, I am very glad that I went with this multiple doc practice not just because the docs are all excellent but also because one of my doctors got to deliver my baby. Sure, my practice did have someone else on call the day I went into the hospital, but Dr. Bartol was back on by the time I gave birth. If you go with a single-doc practice, definitely ask who covers for him/her when he/she is not on call.
Does that make sense?

That does make sense. I would want someone who knows me deliver. What about each doctor appointment along the way. Did you have to catch the doctor up on whats going on from the previous appointment? Hows the communication between them? I am just worried that every time I go in for an exam I would have to explain my situation and what the other doctors told me each time we went in to a check up.
The doctors were usually pretty up to date because of the charts they were keeping on me. I felt like the communication was pretty good between them and also to me. I think they typically have certain talking points for each appointment and then just address any questions I have come up with. The appointments were usually pretty short, mostly just checking in to make sure everything's ok.

I'll be delivering at Upstate at Com Gen and like St. Joe's, that facility is super nice, modern has 6 spa-like private labor, delivery and recovery suites and after the birth, you move to the all-private room mother-baby unit. If I wasn't going to be locked into Upstate, I'd be at St. Joe's:)
You probably already found a OB but if you didn't I go to Dr. Semeran. He is in a practice all by himself so he is the only doctor you will see. He has an office in Liverpool on route 57 and one downtown. He delivers at Crouse. I needed an emergency c-section and he made it to the hospital in about 10 minutes! Hope this helps!
I originally started wit dr. bowen but when I had higb blood pressure towards the end I had seen Dr. Larussa. He took great care of me and my son. I wouldnt have changed any of it. They are great and very accomidating at Associates for women. Dr. bowen also delivered my nephew and dr. kavety delivere my best friends son.
Thank you everybody for all your suggestions. We are going to go with St. Joe's hospital and the Women's Associates John Rosser. Our first appointment in March 1st, so I'll report back and let you know what I thought. We are so excited about our first baby. Can't wait and if there are other new mom's in the area that want to do something let me know. It would be nice to have a group of people I can talk with during my first pregnancy.
Be very cautious about st. Joes and associates for women's medicine. They have a high c section rate and ban all vbacs. No exceptions. I felt very pressured by them to be induced in the end and it ended in an unplanned c section. I have since switched practices for a hopeful vbac baby. The nurses at st joes were awesome though. They really helped with breast feeding.
So I had my first appointment on Friday and it went great. The staff and doctors were really nice and took their time. I was worried that I would be rushed in and out, but they waited and answered all my questions. I think I am going to stick with them since I didn't get any red flags from the first visit. I even got an u/s and saw the baby. They gave me a due date of Oct. 15. I did see the post about having a high c section rate and that does concern me. I will mention that to them in my next appointment. So far I would recommend their facility to anyone, but if something changes I'll let you know.
Community General is great. Had my last one there 5 yrs ago. Jacuzzi in each birthing suite and very home like. This one I'm doing a home birth, but if was not woud have stayed with Community General. Also is not to busy so usually have more attention paid to you and don't usually have to share room afterwards but can opt for private room too. Had oldest dtr at Crouse and sure is great if high risk but not if don't need al the extra. Felt pushed to let them take over and make decisions, where CGH allowed me choices.
