I delivered my DD at NSBC 2 years ago and had a great experience, but it was a long drive and I hate putting all that mileage on my car just for a 30 min appt.
Emerson is about 20 mins closer which would save me 40 mins in driving time each appt.
I was looking at Emerson online and it looks great, but there's only 3 MWs and they look young/ not as experienced as the NSBC MWs.
Is anyone planning to deliver or already delivered with the MWs at the Emerson Birth Center? Share your experiences?
Re: North Shore Birth Center vs. Emerson?
I'm delivering at Emerson with the midwives. I'm in my 3rd tri and really love the midwives so far.
Also, I'm having a girl and we're naming her Hazel - your daughter is beautiful!
thank you.
So am I right that there are only 3 MWs? That's all i saw on the website. Do you feel like they are experienced? It doesn't seem like they have been practicing for very long. Have you had to see any drs.? Are the drs. right there along with the MWs at the birth center? I'm so nervous about a dr. getting involved.
Sorry for all the questions. I really want to like it there because the facility is so nice and it's closer to home, but I'm afraid that the MWs aren't as good as the ones at NSBC, that is what is holding me back.
I have no experience with NSBC, but yes, there are 3 midwives, 2 OBs, and a few NPs at the practice. I've seen 2 of the midwives and they seem extremely experienced. One of them is off on maternity leave (she was delivered by one of the others in the practice). They all share on-call hours so you see each of them, but if you have a favorite you can request them for appointments.
I'd suggest making an appointment at AFA and meeting with one of the midwives and scheduling a hospital tour at Emerson to see if it's something you are comfortable with.
Personally, I wanted to home birth or free-standing birth center experience, but my insurance wouldn't pay for a home birth, and NSBC was too far away for my comfort. However, if I felt uncomfortable with AFA I would switch. So far, no red flags and everyone I've talked to say they are the most "natural friendly" around
