UPDATED! - Choroid Plexus Cyst? and IT'S A GIRL!

Did any of your LOs have a Choroid Plexus Cyst and it turn out to be nothing?  I had my Level 2 US yesterday and our little girl has one.  There were no other markers but that alone changed our trisomy 18 risk from 1:3000 to 1:500.  Still better than the risk based on my age alone.

We are doing the Verifi Prenatal blood test which is like the Harmony or MaterniT21 or whatever that is.

Just curious about your experiences with CPC.  I've read that 90% of the time, they resolve before 28 weeks.

-----------

UPDATE: The geneticist called and told me that the results came back negative for Tri 18.  That there were only 2 copies of chromosome 18!  They also verified that she is a girl with only 2 x chromosomes, and no other genetic mutations.

Although I never felt worried about it, I am happy to know that all is as well as we can know with this baby.

Thanks everyone!

  • Congrats again on another little girl!

Is the cyst in the brain? My cousin's daughter had one at the 20 week u/s, and when she went for the follow-up they said it was gone. They told her that was pretty common for it to go away.

Yep.  Brain cyst.  It appears to be fairly common and when it presents with no other markers, likely to be of no concern.   :)

Yes that is exactly what she was told and it turned out to be no concern. I am sure it will be the same for your little girl!

  • Levi had three. They followed up with a ultrasound at 27 weeks ans they were gone. They usually disappear by the 28 week but enough when they don't they usually don't cause any problems

  • Congrats on the girl!! No experience here, but praying for the best. What is the recourse if the cyst is still there?

  • Congratulations!

They discovered one at 28 weeks and when I went to a specialist a week later (for the IUGR, not the cyst) it was gone.  This was paired with IUGR and a dilated kidney and he turned out perfectly fine!

  • Congratulations on joining team pink!!

and yes - Tai had 2 cysts, with no other markers, and they dissapeared on their own.  Hope the same happens for your little miss. My Dr said they were fairly common and said I shouldnt be worried.

  • Congratulations!! N had a cyst around 28 weeks, I don't remember.  I was told they are a normal part of brain development and some mamas are just lucky enough to catch theirs on u/s.  I'm 36 so I was having u/s like every other week, being an old bag and all.  I was an absolute wreck for 2 weeks waiting for the next u/s and the tech didn't even scan his brain!  I had to ask her to goop me back up and make sure it was gone.  And she was all like 'um... they're normal and I didn't recheck because..well, they're normal.' and she rechecked and it was gone.  And I asked the MFM that checked everyone of my u/s and she confirmed what the tech said.

Take a deep breath mama. I'm sure it's nothing.  Congratulations on baby girl #2!

  • Congrats on team pink! We had to go to specialist after our 20 week apt. Scans showed 4 cysts but no other markers. We went for a follow up at 26 and 30 weeks all was normal. Good luck!
