My son is nearly 7 months old and never really rolls. He still pretty much hates tummy time but I make it happen every day. He gets so mad in this position therefore doesn't roll over either because he's so worked up about being on his tummy. When he's on his back, he just lays there and plays with his hands and feet happily...sometimes laying on his side. He can roll, I have seen it, but maybe less than 10 times. He sits on his own perfectly and can do so for long periods of time. No crawling. He stands on laps and leaning against furniture (supervised closely with our hands ready to catch him).
Should I be worried about him not rolling at this age? Anyone else have a LO not really interested in rolling?
Re: rolling not really happening...almost 7 months old.
our LO's are the same age and this is exactly they way my DS is... he is so chill. i was worried about him not rolling over as fast as other babies but he finally did around 6 months... he will only do it if he has some kind of motivation to do so.
he will lay on his back and entertain himself forever! he may not be a mover but he has been sitting unassisted since 5.5 months and can play with toys independently for sometimes thirty minutes stretches. i am going to enjoy this time because i know it will end soon!
I spoke to my pedi about this, she said since DS can sit up (and that is more advanced than rolling over) she is not concerned.
DS hates tummy time (most of the time). I find doing it when he is in a good mood and going from sitting and playing with something to being on his tummy playing with the toy helps to extent the tummy time. Have you also tried propping him up on a Boppy for tummy time too...that helps us. He still hates it, but tolerates it a little longer if we do it that way.
We also "practice rolling" I sing the 10 in the bed song and roll him over when the song gets to the "roll over" part. I also show my fingers to him as I count down, so I try and make it a learning/game for him. He did roll over once after we "played the game" but he doesn't really care to roll.
