How are you storing baby gear that LO has outgrown?

We have a severe lack of storage space for bulky items at our house. I'm dismantling things like the bouncer that DD no longer uses and washing all fabric pieces but I'm trying to figure the best way to store everything for our next baby. I don't want to give/sell anything at this point.

Storing in our attic isn't a good option because of the heat here. We can probably store things at my mom's house but I'd like to make things as compact as possible.

Any ideas? The best I've got right now is dismantle and place in rubbermaid tubs.

  • I put it all in the garage. Except her clothes. I put those in a rubber bin on the top of her closet. There is a large storage space up there. Once that is full, it will go to the garage.

  • We don't have a lot of storage in our place either.  We are in a townhouse condo.  We do have a storage locker with our parking space but it is pretty full already/

I have a couple bins in her room and I've been filling them up with clothes as she outgrows them.  When it is full, I'm going to label it and store it in the closet in our laundry room.

I am ready to retire her swing and I think I might need to disassemble it to store it easily.

We tried to buy smaller items.  Ie. I got a Graco Contempo high chair that folds up really small and we bought a small exersaucer.  This is our first baby, so we want to keep everything for now.

  • Once we have a few full bins of clothing I plan on investing in a vacuum bag cloths sucker thingy. (takes out all air and makes stuff 100 x smaller)

Bigger stuff.... who knows! hoping to dump some of it at my parents house as well.

  • I've lived in Florida my whole life and it gets brutally hot here and even worse in our attic. Nothing has every been destroyed unless the roof had a leak and things got wet. All of our baby stuff will be going up there once its packed in tubs and ready to go. We do have 2 nieces that will be born this year so they won't stay there long bit that will be the permanent home when they are done. I do like the idea of vacuum packing the clothes and then storing them in bins. That may happen soon.

  • We are buying a new house, lol. I'm not kidding though. We have been casually looking for the past year, but now we are officially house hunting. Ready with our pre approval and everything. We just need more space. Especially now as we try to find a spot for everything S received for Christmas, its becoming very clear that a new house is needed. And that is how we will store things!
  • I was saving it all in diaper boxes in his closet..I then decided that IF we have another child and IF it is a boy, I will probably want new clothes anyways!

I sell what I can at consignment shops/ online facebook yard sales/ yard sales and then the rest gets donated.

Our house has very little storage space so it just doesn't make sense for us to save things.  The only things we will save will be the expensive baby gear like car seats, strollers, etc.

  • My thinking is pretty similiar to other PP's responses- if you want to store clothes, vacumn pack them and store them under beds or on top of closet shelves. Donate the ones you wont use again/dont like.

If you want to store big items like the swing, etc. dismantle them, wrap garbage bags around them and taping the ends to sort of make a train as you wrap, to keep out dust, etc, then store the piping/legs in narrow long bins, put them in the garage.   The body part/ cradle part, put inside a garbage bag, tie it, and then put in a separate, larger bin (you can put on top of the long narrow bin that has the piping, to keep in all together,)  Then store it in the garage/ shoe closet/attic/ basement if you find a space/depending on how your house/apartment/condo is designed.

All other stuff like the strollers- stay folded up and in the shoe closet/garage/or basement.

Baby utensils can eventually go into small plastic bins, where you can just put inside the China cabinet or another kitchen cabinet space to pull out for the next baby.

Baby toys that has been outgrown but you want to save for the next baby- put in plastic bins to store on a shelf.   Baby toys you dont want- donate or sell.

Thats all I can think of...
