I have my appt to place Paragard this afternoon. My OB said I should take this medication that disolves in your checks that helps dilate your cervix and make placement less painful. Did you take this? Did you have any side effects?

Re: Paragard/IUD users...a question
I didn't take anything and I was fine. I had some cramping for a little while afterward, but have hardly had a single side effect since and I got it almost 2 months ago.
Edit for spelling.
Had paragard placed about 8 weeks PP. Was not told to take any thing for dilation. Was told to take 600-800mg ibuprofen about 30 minutes prior to the procedure and every 6 hours as needed for cramping after the insertion. I will admit they insertion was not bad at all no worse than a pap in my opinion. However I cramped and bled for about 3 days afterward and it was pretty uncomfortable.
What!?? I need to hear this story! Now I'm freaked out.
Sorry! I'm not good at watching threads!! Don't worry though, I know it works for most people. My doctor was really surprised. I just noticed that I hadn't had a period and I probably should have, so I took a test, and I was pregnant. It was kind of scary till they removed the IUD but everything was fine and now I have my beautiful DD.
