Babies: 6 - 9 Months

7 1/2 months and not crawling?

Happy Friday, everyone!

Quick question- I have a 7 1/2 month old little boy who still isn't crawling. While I know I should be careful what I wish for here, I am maybe just a little concerned that he still isn't crawling yet. He is certainly strong enough, but when I lay him on his tummy he either spins around in a circle like the hands of a clock, or kicks his legs like he's swimming. He pushes up on his hands perfectly well, and can hold himself there for quite a while.

Just didn't know if there were things I could do to help him "practice" crawling, or if anyone else has a baby similar in age who still hasn't crawled?? Thanks!!

  • My dd hasn't started crawling yet either. She loves to roll around and can stand and hold herself up on her arms but won't crawl. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help her.

  • Don't stress about it. DS will be 9 months next week and still isn't crawling. I mentioned it when we were at the pedi for an ear infection and she isn't worried.

  • Crawling is not a milestone, and isn't a required step in development.

  • DD will be 9 months Jan 14. And she has no interest in crawling or pulling up. I'm not stressing about it. I still love the fact I can put her down and she stays exactly where I put her. Enjoys those moments! GL

This. My nephew never crawled. He surprised everyone and went straight to walking at 9 1/2 months. I have known quite a few babies that have never crawled.

DS is 9 months tomorrow and JUST started crawling about a week ago. Now he is crawling like a pro and into EVERYTHING. One day he wasn't doing it at all and the next day BAM he was crawling around like he had been doing it for months. He is like this with a lot of things. He has been on the later end of normal for all of his milestones (rolling over, sitting up, etc) but once he starts doing it he is really really good at it so I don't worry. He isn't pulling himself up or standing by himself right know at all either. I actually would be kind of happy if he didn't start walking until 13 months or so because he's already a handful now! :)

  • My ds is also 7.5 months and not crawling. He does the same as yours, lifts himself really high, looks likes he's swimming, etc.

Like pps have said, some babies never crawl. There's no age by where they should.

My friend was over yesterday with her 6.5 month old who crawls and he was into everything and it was tiring moving him away from the tree, etc so I'm enjoying my non-mobile baby while I can!

  • DD1 didn't really start crawling until 9-10 months. I wouldn't worry about it. Some kids never crawl.

  • Mine can but won't. I caught her inching on her belly once or twice, but over all she hates it. You can try interesting toys or blankets just out of reach, but really, don't stress. Most pedi's don't even consider it a milestone.

  • our DD, close to 7 1/2 months, isn't really crawling yet either. she can push herself up, and roll everywhere, and she does this weird army crawl type of thing where she kinda drags her body along the floor, rocking left to right in order to go forward. got to watch whats on the floor now a days!

  • My baby girl is 7 1/2 months and doing the exact same thing as yours. They will crawl when they are ready.

My little niece just turned one, and she did not crawl until she was about 10 months, and like 2 weeks later she was standing and walking around while holding onto furniture. Some babies actually don't crawl for very long, and they are ALL different.

  • It could be confidence building. DD is 7.5 mns, she had been rolling and doing a military crawl to get where she wanted. Until just about a 2 wks ago when I placed her on her br floor... She saw something she wanted and zoom. DD was crawling like a pro, has been since! Now she's trying to pull up and wants to stand when given the chance. Your lo will get there in time. DD will be 8 months Jan. 15th :
  • Same boat as you. I was 11 months when I started to crawl so I am sure she is following in my footsteps!  I just enjoy it now cause once that happens its a whole new stress!
