Who's having them?
I feel like since Griffin turned 2, napping has become a nightmare. This is a kid who used to go down pretty easily and sleep 2-3 hours most days. Suddenly, it's nearly impossible to get him down, IF (and that's a big IF) he goes down at all.
So, what's your nap routine? Does your kid put him or herself down or do you rock/sing to sleep? Generally, we've read him a book, and then I stand and hold him while I sing for 3-5 minutes, and then set him in the crib. He would be sleepy but not asleep. Now, I can't even get him relaxed after 3-5 minutes. And I can't hold his 33 lb a$$ much longer than that! lol. Also, when I lay him down, he absolutely FREAKS OUT crying. Then he's in there, talking, playing, sometimes whining for up to an hour. 50% of the time, he falls asleep by then, but lately he hasn't been. I know he's tired. I've read that this happens at this age.. but man this is tough! Anyone have any magic solutions? Commiseration?
Re: Nap issues
Our naps have been off lately too. I don't know if it's because of the holidays or what, but shes been taking shorter naps and then shes exhausted a few hours later. So the last few days she's been taking 2 short naps each day, but in between the naps she just misbehaves and is generally a big mess.
I'm looking forward to getting back to our regular schedule.
yup we've had problems too. B usually naps from 1-4 at home (shorter at day care) but in December really battled with naps in both places. If he fell asleep, he'd only sleep an hour, or wake up screaming or not fall asleep at all. If he didn't sleep at all, he'd happily play in his crib for 2+ hours.
He's been sick over break so he's currently taking a 3 hour and 45 minute nap. Maybe he'll stretch it to 4 lol. I always get nervous when he naps this long (that it might impact his night time sleep) but it never does. I guess if he's sleeping this long (and battling a cough and double ear infection) it's because he really needs the extra sleep.

Since my boys are in toddler beds naps are "fun". They go back to their room at 1 pm,I tuck them in,and leave. They play, "read", laugh--- sometimes for two hours. When they fall asleep, I only let them sleep until 4pm.
I am of the opinion that as long as they are quiet and do eventually rest, it is all ok. Bedtime is similar- but it is usually only 30 minutes of fun now.
Ava has had nap issues for the past two months. Most days she'll take 30-45 minute naps and then wake up with a dirty diaper. I have tried everything get her to not poop during a nap but nothing has worked.
Anyway, we just kept pushing and pushing. I put her down fully awake (part of her sleep training) and she puts herself to sleep. The last couple days she's actually slept for 1.5-2 hours which is AMAZING. I do the exact same routine every day. Lunch, up to room, read one book, change diaper, put on jammies and into the crib.
Naptime is generally easy peasy here, with the exception of the other day when he climbed out of the crib twice (after we flipped the tall side out). We read a few books on the couch, DS drinks his milk & then I bring him up to his crib & tuck him in for his nap.
BUT (that's a huge but) bedtime & overnight, he has given us a lot of trouble over the past 2 months & it only seems to be getting worse recently. He is currently sick, teething & thrown off by Christmas. Last night & tonight were terrible getting him to sleep. Last night it took 1 hr 45 min & then he was up a few times overnight. Tonight it took over & hour & he threw up twice b/c he was crying so hard. He was crying & said he was sad. I asked him why he was sad & he tells me b/c he's sick. ugh. MH actually started to cry himself b/c DS just sounded so pathetic, the poor kid. It's at the point though where his wake ups & fighting bedtime are habit & we're going to need to do CIO once he's not sick anymore. I would have never thought my 3 month old would be STTN & my 2 yr old would be needing CIO. Go figure.
Naps? What are those?? Daycare somehow gets him to sleep on a cot for over 2 hours each day! DH can rock him and get him down for about 45min. I can't get him to go down at all for anything.
Well, I guess it's good to hear I am not alone. I suppose they are just so busy now that they have no interest in sleeping!
I think we are having some of the same problems though - teething, sick, and thrown off by the Christmas festivities and getting out of the routine. Yesterday, after playing, whining, etc for 40 minutes, he fell asleep for 2.5 hours, so hoping things will get better!
We had massive nap issues right around Nora's 2nd b-day. I think it was mainly all the excitement, presents, party, etc., and she just didn't want to miss anything! I tried everything -- lying down with her (she just wanted to play), singing an extra song, making naptime earlier and later, and nothing worked.
So, I just decided to tell her that she needed to nap (she is suuuuuper cranky in the afternoon if she doesn't, and that I was going to put her in her crib for an hour, and she wouldn't see me until an hour was up. She was free to play or fuss, but I told her I hoped she'd lay her head down, close her eyes and take a good nap. And I stuck to my guns. The first day, she just fussed, but I left her for an hour, and then went and got her up and continued with our day. The next day, she napped beautifully. Since then, she's been doing really well, with only a handful of short naps (and one no-nap day, yesterday). I am sooooo not ready for her to give up napping.
We started to wake her up at the same time on the weekends that we do for weekdays. We are also trying to wear her OUT so that she really is tired. Today was our first day of that, and she napped! I think that with all the b-day hoopla, the holidays, being sick, getting all 4 incisors in, it just threw EVERYTHING off.
I am hoping that things will get better. We bumped bedtime to 8:30, and it has been an easier time than the over an hour fight to go to sleep. Glad we aren't alone.
