It's the weirdest thing. J is NOT a fussy baby, but at Thanksgiving she immediately starting crying when she saw my dad's dog. And cat. Every time she saw them that weekend.
This past weekend, we were in another house with a dog, and she started crying when she saw them again.
Anyone else experience this? Did we just not show her enough pictures of animals (or real animals) before now??
Re: Anyone else's baby afraid of animals?
My LO doesn't seem to be a fan either but she is more wary of little dogs.
She is interested (from a distance) in cats. She cries if a little dog gets near her but my parents massive German Sheppard makes her laugh. He lays down next to her during the day and she follows him. As long as the animal in question is friendly, we pet the animal and say good dog, then we "pet" LO and show her it's no difference. If she calms down, we may move her hand to pet the dog.
It's also on a case by case basis, My in-laws have a little Jack Russell and I don't trust him with LO, but my parent's have a JR-mix and he's sweet so we let him near LO.
We have the opposite problem...DS is so not afraid of animals that it scares me. He tries to get at every animal he sees. I am glad the animals in our life are friendly but it scares me to think he may unintentionally antagonize an animal that is not so nice.
It's probably just because your LO is unfamiliar. Once she gets older and starts remembering more I'm sure she will realize there is nothing to be afraid of.
