Help with constipation...he has never been before.?

My DS has never ever been constipated before, but he hasnt gone in 2 days now and his poor belly looks so bloated. I think it is because of our hectic holiday schedule and him eating things that he normally doesnt. So what can we do? I have already been feeding him fiberous foods and water and fresh apples. We have been snowed in, so I havent tried apple juice yet. Any recommendations??

  • apples bind too so no apple juice- use pear juice or prunes- either baby prunes or dried prunes.  Spinach is a poop miracle- I give my daugher the gerber garden veggies puried when I need her to poop.  Also, oatmeal helps.

My daughter has battled poop problems since she was an infant.

  • I use the pureed prunes and apples or whole grains first, and if that doesn't work I give her 1/2 a cap of Miralax at the rec of our pedi. I know you said it's snowing, but if he can get out and run around exercise helps get things going too.

  • Big no on the apples. They will stop him up. Prunes, pear puree, even Karo syrup, to soften the stool, and then maybe a suppository to help it come out. I know they make children's suppositories, but would be too afraid to use without a doctor's recommendation. DDs both were constipated while I BF'd right after birth, and we used to have to do the thermometer trick, which is very unsettling with a newborn, but I'm not sure how well that would work with a toddler.

  • Try prunes.  If he doesn't like the taste, give him 1/2 prune juice diluted with 1/2 water.  If that doesn't work, give him half a dose of Miralax with milk.  Our LO has had constipation issues since she was 6 months old.  This is all based on our pedi's recommendations.
  • Ty ladies!! Our pedi also suggested the 1/2 dose of Mirolax for 3 days in milk or pear juice. I am going with the milk though. Thnx again :

  • My DS had this problem earlier this week. We found apricots really did the trick. I also fed him about a teaspoon of Metamucil. He had 4 BMs throughout the rest of the day.
