Back in August I was lurking on the 0-3 month board (I can't be the only one that lurks ahead?!! ) and was reading some good tips and information. One was about packing your diaper bag. I saved it so that I would remember when it came time for me to pack a diaper bag.
I love this system and plan on trying it out myself. Hopefully it helps someone else out as well!
KUinCBUS:
I have 3 large ziplock bags in my diaper bag, they are labeled and contain the following:1 Comforting: a change of clothes, socks, a receiving blanket, a roll of bags for stashing soiled clothes.
2 Changing: diapers, wipes, diaper cream, changing mat, a roll of bags for disposing of dirty diapers.
3 Feeding: formula, burp cloth, bib, nursing cover, lanolin I breast feed and supplement with formula.
In the bag I also have a bottle, a bottle of water for mixing formula, and a small zippered pouch with my personal items wallet, pocket sized calendar, lip gloss, lotion.
Hanging on the outside of my bag I have purell hand sanitizer and a pacifier holder with pacifier.
On the front of each ziplock bag I have written a list of what the bag contains so I can restock easily.
Re: Diaper Bag packing suggestion
holy crap she's organized....i'd LOVE to see that diaper bag after 3 months and see if it's still packed like that hahaha
very smart and all look like great items to have in the diaper bag
the biggest thing was a few outfits or at least a couple extra onesies in there for all those blowouts in the first few weeks. i bought a 'wetbag' at a babyshow craft fair (i think CD users use it for dirties) for anything soiled, except diapers which i'd throw away right away anyway.
lanolin is a MUST

She sounds like she has ocd. Who can be and stay that organized with a newborn?! LOL
I doubt it stayed that way.
I highly recommend a wet bag or gallon baggies. Just in case of issues, you don't want to carry around soiled clothes or diapers. Lanolin, an extra blanky and extra clothes are a must! When I was a nanny and in child care it was always crappy when the kid has a major blow out or throws up and mom hadn't packed anything to change the kid into. Also plan for the unexpected! Snacks too! For you and then for baby later
LOL I'm jealous of her organization! Here I was thinking I was doing good just having spare clothes
I always pack extra outfits in gallon zip lock bags (and still do if I'm afraid DD will have an accident). Each outfit gets its own baggie because 1-I want to keep them clean which a zip lock does and 2-when an outfit gets dirty/messed you just take out your clean outfit and put the dirty one in the zip lock. It contains the smell and the mess and can just be thrown right back in the diaper bag without worrying about making a mess.
I also always kept diapers in a zip lock to keep them in one place, together. That way with each diaper change I really just needed to find the zip locks of diapers and the wipes as long as it was a straight up diaper change. It seemed to work really well for us. Once DD started "food" I also kept a small baggie of spoons and the mesh feeder thing in the diaper bag as well.
I'm the oddball as I haven't carried a diaper bag since month 3 with DS. I started with a messenger bag type so I could keep my hands completely free. (Most any shoulder type bag slides off my shoulders - grrrrrr!) But even that got old after a while so I switched to stocking a basket in the trunk of my car. The only problem is I forget to switch out the extra clothes as DS grows.Thankfully I haven't needed clothes for blow outs in at least 6-8months. Knock. on. wood.
