Ungrateful DH

I feel like I need to tell someone but I can't tell my family or friends.

Dh is the most ungrateful person I know. I swear his mother didn't teach him manners. Every gift giving holiday is the same. I think and think and think about what to get him and it is never good enough. Sure, he showers me with gifts and I guess he thinks I should do the same. The only problem, he buys everything he ever wants. Getting gifts for him is hit or miss and it seems I usually miss.

This year he asked for the new Wii U. I got him the basic version because the only difference in that and the really expensive one was the memory and they both have expansion slots so its really not a big deal. I got him many other things that I thought were awesome and after he opens the Wii U, he sulks. It's not the right one. Really?!?

He says that he buys me extravagant gifts and I get him little stuff. I just feel so let down. It's getting to the point I don't even want to buy him anything.

  • I am so sorry. What a butt head!  I would maybe set a spending limit for next year, and that way he doesn't feel like he is going overboard?

I hope you can enjoy the rest of your holiday. ((hugs))

  • Can we say gift card??? LOL.  I know it's not as personal but that way he gets what he wants.

  • My brother is that way. It pisses me off. I don't get it. I'm sorry your hubby is such an arse.

  • Can I just be a huge Debbie Downer and say that I hate Christmas because of this. Christmas, to me, is supposed to be for kids. For adults, it should be to love one another, get together for a meal, and give to those in need. If gifts are really meaningful to you or your DH, then maybe go shopping together and get what you want for each other together, and wrap them up. That way there won't be disappointment in the future. Also, set a spending limit, negotiate and stick to it.

After Christmas I'm always left with this guilty type feeling because lord knows we don't need anything.  I'm grateful for what we have, don't get me wrong, but I can relate in the sense that my husband always wants some big old thing...I figure he can buy what he wants during the year.

  • On the bright side you will be prepared when your LO throws a fit about not getting their way. You should have lots of practice from your DH.
