Baby toys

DH thinks we should return any toys we get for DS. He doesn't think he will care about toys in his first year anyway and so we should use that money to put in a college fund for him. I am kind of torn about it. Some things we agree on keeping like the toys that he can use for chewing on to help his gums feel better when teething and books of course. What do think? Do they really need stuffed animals and things like that?

Re: Baby toys

  • Need? No. Nice to have? Yes. We don't have a ton of toys for her, but we have a few from Christmas and a few from before. We don't plan to buy anymore. I'm not a huge fan of a lot of toys, because a lot seem to be ignored and a waste.

  • Some of the toys my parents got for L are good for stimulating her. Like we got a rocktivity table by Playskool. It speaks spanish and english and she loves it even though she can't play with it.

Some are good for brain stimulation.

  • No toys at all until a year? That seems kind of...harsh. DD really loves her toys even at this age.

I definitely think some toys are good for a baby's development. Nothing crazy, but some rattles, a few stuffed animals, or musical toys are appropriate. They need safe things to practice holding, to chew on, and to learn about cause and effect.
