Rec car seat for grandma

I was wondering what car seat you would reccomend for a grandparents car? I will be using the britax b safe in my car but I need something for my mother's. I thought about just buying an extra base for her car but we decided against that as we don't want to have to worry about forgetting the car seat somewhere.

I obviously want something safe but would like something more affordable. Also what do you think of just getting a convertible car seat for grandma's car? I always read that infant car seats are better to start with but do you think it's a big deal for grandma's car?

I remember that the baby bargains book had a good suggestions for a car seat for grandma's car but unfortunatly my copy of the book got destroyed during Sandy.

  • I would get a Graco Size4Me. It goes by a few different names depending on where you purchase it. It is has the highest shell for rear facing and then can be turned for forward facing. It could be the only seat your child uses until they are in a high back booster. It starts at 4 pounds too so the littlest of babies can ride in it too. It's about $180 but again, this car seat can work in Grandma's (or anyone's!!) car until the child is 7 years old. Not a bad price for a car seat that will last that long, fit a newborn, work for extended rear facing and is a safe seat.

Not a bad idea. That seat isn't available here, it would do us to age 5 or just a bit beyond. Grandmas backup here is a Radian.
  • The Cosco Scenera is a good budget convertible. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but it's a safe and affordable seat at around 40 bucks. Walmart carries them.
  • Under $100, I would look at the Safety 1st Guide 65.

I have a My Size 70 right now, and I do like it. I bought it for around $150 through albeebaby.com (well my original seat was the Size 4 Me, the My Size is only at BRU), and while I did have some issues with it in the beginning, Graco has been pretty helpful. I would recommend it for sure. My DS is just shy of 2.5 years old. He is about 32lbs and maybe 36" tall or so. He has tons of room rear-facing still, and it will definitely get him to booster age. I wish that this seat had been out years ago.
