Pregnant after 35

Just found out

Hi, I will be 40 in 2 weeks and just found out I am pregnant.  I just got married in Oct and we have been trying since July.  we are both very happy.  This is the first time I have been pregnant and I am not going to lie, a little scared with all the risks that come with waiting this long.  Just thought I introduce myself and say Hi.  I am sure I will be asking all sorts of advice. Have a great day.

  • Welcome to the board! You are in great company, and not alone!

And for the record, my great-aunt had my cousin (her one and only child) at 42 with no difficulties whatsoever. And that was 50+ years ago, when medical technology and treatments were nowhere near what they are now.

    A H&H 9 months to you!

  • Hi! Congrats and welcome!

I was 39 when I got pregnant and turned 40 4 months into things. I'm currently 24 wks and everything looks good, is measuring right etc. Totally normal pregnancy.

If I can offer you any advice- follow your gut, stick with docs you feel comfortable with, don't let anyone scare the sh#t out of you(b/c some will try to) and do what you feel is best for YOU!

GL and a happy and healthy 9 mo's to you!

  • Congratulations!

  • Congratulations!  You must be feeling so excited!  It's normal to be nervous.  Listen to the PP and follow your gut.  We are pregnant with #3 (our first together) after a lapse of 12 years and I'll be 44 when I deliver.

    Good luck and welcome!  :)

  • Congratulations and welcome! Don't let the being older thing scare you. This is my first pregnancy (will be turning 42 a month before baby comes) too and it has been a complete non-event so far...everything totally normal. I told the OB at my 24-wk appointment this morning that my goal was for her to be so bored she'd wish I'd used a midwife instead. She laughed.

  • Hi tjeen!  I'm about to turn 38, and today I also found out that I'm pregnant for the first time!  I'm a little nervous too, and trying not to think about the risks too much.  Mostly my husband and I (we just got married in September) are super excited!

    Congratulations!

  • Congratulations!  I know....at first learning that you are at "advanced maternal age" can sound kinda like you're one step away from a retirement home! LOL.  This is such an exciting time, and I'll be praying for a safe and easy pregnancy/delivery. So happy for you.
