I was wondering if anyone has advice or knows anything about the dispute between
United Healthcare and Baycare. UHC is no longer covering services provided at any Baycare facility. I am expecting my first baby, due May 3, and the
group of doctors I'm seeing deliver at St. Jospeh Womens, which is part of
Baycare. My doctors, however, are not part of Baycare, and I love them all.
So, I got a letter in the mail from UHC saying "Congratulations, even though we
aren't covering services at Baycare anymore, we will still cover the costs of
your delivery." I thought that was great, until I started reading further.
They will cover routine obstetric care including antepartum, vaginal delivery
and postpartum care. I'm not anticipating a c-section, but I know sometimes
they're necessary and it wouldn't be covered should I need one. Not a huge
deal, but the kicker was that they will only cover these services for the dates
April 28 - May 2. So according to UHC, I must have the baby during that time
frame in order for the services to be covered. So um, I guess I'll talk to the
baby and try to get it to cooperate, but I can't make any promises! I love my
doctors so much and don't want to have to switch now, midway through the
pregnancy. I want to hold out hope that Baycare and UHC can come to a
resolution, but what if they don't? What would you do? Find new doctors and
start over now with a hospital that is in UHC's network?
