XP -- Toddler Toy Storage?

So my son just celebrated his first birthday and Christmas in the same two week period. Needless to say, it looks like Toys R Us blew up in our apartment!!!

I'm totally cool with having toys around for him to play with, but I just need some kind of way that I can pick everything up and out of the way at the end of the day to be able to vaccuum, walk, etc.

I was thinking maybe a big ol' soft wicker basket? But then the stuff at the bottom would probably never get played with...

What do y'all use for toy storage? Is there any way I can crawl out of this toy clutter?!

We have it laying horizontal and have 3 of those fabric bin/totes.

Smaller toys go in the totes, larger toys sit on the shelves and on top.

This is awesome because you can see what is in the bins. I used to have just a toy box before for DS, but like you said, all the little stuff fell to the bottom (and I just caught DS trying to climb in it...lol)

I just bought an ikea trofast shelf and it has tons of room for organizing. We also do toy rotation a couple times a week. I make up a bin of books and a bin of toys (each are about 8x8) for him to play with. He seems to be happier and more purposeful in his play now, rather than throwing ALL of his toys from his toy box on the floor and making a mess (and not actually playing with the toys).
