Extremely hyper child!!!

Hi, sooo does anyone else have an extremely hyper child. I understand that all children will have their spurts of energy but my son 2 years old is like that ALL the time. If he had the option to never sleep he would take it. He used to be a screamer as well very High pitched but has seemed to grow out of it. He nuts lol. Drives me and his dad crazy sometimes because since he's so hyper he has a hard time following rules or listening I feel like a broken record all the time..

Re: Extremely hyper child!!!

  • In some kids with lots of energy combined with poor listening skills is a sign of an underlying sensory issue. I would bring it up to my pedi at your next checkup and see if an evaluation by an OT would be best.

  • I think you have described every 2 year old boy! :). We have the same thing going on here too.  I try to plan things out and keep Jackson in a routine.  It helps.  Getting outside before a nap or bed time helps too.  Maybe try looking into an activity like swimming lessons, tumbling, soccer....etc...

  • My son is also a constant mover. He has sensory processing disorder, so he craves a lot of different things. He was and still is a screamer, which is common in SPD kiddos. Many peds aren't familiar with sensory processing disorder and it is best diagnosed by an OT. He sounds just like my LO.

Us too. Always has been a horrible sleeper and unable to stay with a task for more than 20 seconds and he's LOUD all the time. We now work with a sensory occupational therapist.
