1st Trimester

Avoiding maternity clothes as long as possible

At this point, I know I am just bloated but my pants are uncomfortable so I started shopping for a solution.

I found something called chic maternity belly band. But I don't know why they call it a belly band because it is more like a jeans extender. I would like to be able to wear my regular clothes as long as possible to save money. How long do you think I will be able to use one of those things? Would this be better than the big piece of material you put over your pants?

I'm with you Prim! I got some amazing, cute, and comfortable maternity clothes for Christmas (I picked them out when shopping with my Mom) and I'm SO much more comfortable than I was before...especially after trying to use that bella-band thing or the hair elastic trick, neither of which were very comfortable!

  • Maternity clothes are wonderful!  Seriously they have come up with some really cute, stylish and comfortable things.  You are going to have to wear them eventually so just go for it!  If you buy them now you can at least say you got your money's worth.  Also the bella band itches and I hate it.

  • I think getting into maternity clothes earlier is actually making the best use of your money. There's no way you are going to make it through without needing them, so the longer you wear them the more bang for your buck. You'll kick yourself if you pay the money and only wear them for a few months.

I kicked myself when I bought them early and then had to buy a bigger size the last month. I'm kind with the OP. I do wear yoga pants a lot though.

  • I'd try it. I'm avoiding too. For my first I didn't really need maternity pants until the third trimester, and the bloat went away into the second.

  • I wear my jeans fitted and they are all pretty uncomfortable at this point.  I was on WW before I got my BFP, so I am already up 5 lbs from not tracking my food/the holidays and am CRAZY bloated!  I got a pair of skinny jeans from gap maternity with the ultimate panel and they are super comfy.  I wore them for Xmas eve and Xmas and my husband said you couldn't tell at all that they were maternity jeans.  I was tempted to wear a maternity dress to work today just because I am feeling like my regular clothes are snug.

I am definitely not in the wait it out to buy maternity clothes club.  I am a total clothes horse and spend quite a bit on clothes for myself monthly.  I bought a TON of maternity clothes with DD (I need professional stuff work work/court and casual), but sold them all because I lost a bunch of weight afterwards.  I made over $900 selling them on Ebay, so this time, I am pretty much buying as much and whatever I want and will sell them again because we plan on being done with #2.

  • Why?  I LOVE maternity clothes, they are so comfy.  BTW you're not a failure as a woman if you wear them sooner rather than later.

I got a belly band at Target with my 1st pregnancy and I really liked it.  Kohl's and Target maternity clothes aren't priced too bad and they often have sales/clearance.  Some of my Target maternity clothes don't even look like maternity and I have worn them between pregnancies.

  • I love maternity clothes.  I can't wait to justify buying them! lol

  • Thats cute. I would say you could probably get away with it for a while until you start getting really big, then you will probably have to buy some sort of bigger jeans be it maternity or not or leggings or stretchy pants.

Maternity clothes are kind of expensive for something you won't wear for very long so I see nothing wrong with trying to avoid buying them as long as you can.

This!! Lol! Why not be comfortable?! I was cramping a little when I wore my regular jeans. Much better with maternity clothes. It's not like maternity clothes are a bad thing, you should be able to wear it later- I did for my first pregnancy anyways.

  • I am wondering the same thing. I bought a ton of super chic stuff from www.madeleinematernity.com with discount code ILOVEMM it gets you 50% off and their stuff if super cute. I was afraid the code would expire so I bought both the pink dress (for my maternity shots) and the striped dress and striped top. Both are amazing quality. And... I'm going back for seconds this week.
