We started sleep training probably close to 6 months and I will admit we have not been good at being consistent. We are good for a while then he gets sick and everything changes. He likes to be with us when he isn't feeling well. The first cold I was hesitant b/c I didn't want him to get used to sleeping in bed with us but once he was passed it he was fine in his crib again. Well he has been sick 2 times since and now teething he wants to be around us too. It seems every time we start something comes up. Has this happened to others and how have you coped. It has gotten to the point where he will fall asleep in our arms and then we put him in his crib and he is fine for the night. But I know everyone says he should learn how to fall asleep himself. I hate listening to him scream, whining I can deal with till he falls asleep but full out screaming I cave. And his newest thing, we put him in and then he gets so worked up he ends up sitting up in his crib and I am not sure how to handle that one. TIA!
Re: Sleep training when sick
Sleep training is definitely difficult when LO is sick. I wouldn't recommend starting training while they are sick but if you're already doing it I think it's more beneficial to continue with it. Obviously, there are exceptions to every rule. My LO had RSV and the dr recommended sleeping at an incline so she slept in her swing a few nights. Other than that I do hold her and cuddle more when she is sick but I always keep her in her crib. Babies need consistency and that consistency is comforting to them, too when they are sick.
