Re: UO Thursday

  • I think it's wrong to judge people for how they raise their own child. (i.e stomach sleeping, co-sleeping, formula feeding) If that what works for their kid, then so be it. I'm sure they know all the risks. There's no need to make them feel like shizz.

    preach it sista!!

I also think that everyone is different and just because YOUR baby did it, doesn't mean mine should yet, or is going to... (this is more directed at ppl in my RL not my bump life)

  • I think cosleeping is weird. Unless there is a medical condition that the baby will not sleep anywhere but on me, this will never happen in our house.

Our bed is the only place for 'us'. Even the dogs aren't allowed there. Which is crazy bc I am a crazy dog person. But, I appreciate my space.

  • I love every single UO this am!!

Mine... I love coming to work to get a break from the hubs and the crying children and my messy house. Ill get to snuggle and put them to bed when I get home which is my favorite part of the day! And not just because I had quiet time but because I love our night time routine of bath bed snuggles reading and prayers especially since dd is starting toget it now.

I think kids get too many gifts for Christmas. Looking on FB and seeing these kids loot piles made me sick. Do kids really need that much stuff?

How about a donation to their college fund?

Seriously!!! I am so pissed at the amount of crap I now have to deal with thanks to this blessed holiday. Ugh!

Mine is about funerals, if you couldn't stand a person or never gave them the time of day why would you go to the funeral? If you hated that person you really should go, unless its to dance

  • I think that books about parenting, child growth, and other stuff are overrated. One book says one thing while another says something different. I feel like I can do a fantastic job raising this baby and the future ones without a book telling me what I should be doing. If the doctor says he is healthy and developing at a "normal" rate then this is good enough for me. I can read to him, play with him, and a million other things. I don't need a book to tell me what to do!

That being said I do own What to Expect The First Year!! It doesn't freak me out and it does have some interesting little facts in it. Did you know that when LO is "talking" he uses just the right side of his mouth? If he is "talking" just for fun he uses his whole mouth. However, the movement is so small you can't tell.

  • I think its gross when people don't wipe their kid after a wet diaper. Wouldn't you want to be cleaned up after wetting yourself?

That said, I do occasionally skip wiping a wet diaper. But that's only when she is doing her banshee scream because she's mad at me for changing her in the first place. And I hate myself when I do it. LOL

  • It really disturbs me to hear new moms say "I'm so in love with my son/daughter."  I get that in the first few days you're overwhelmed with love, but I'm *in love* with my husband whereas I *love* my daughter.  I know it's only an expression and these moms aren't saying they are romantically in love with their kids, but that phrase will always carry a romantic connotation with me so to me it's gross.

I agree that it's wrong to judge parents but I disagree with the part where they must know the risks. Just as an example, one of my girlfriends came over and commented on us not having a bumper in the crib. I explained the SIDS risk and she hadn't heard that. She said that her mom and older sister used them and had never considered them a risk.

I agree for the most part. I absolutely love my dog, BUT if he growls and attempts to bite another child unprovoked, we will have to do something. After the first time, we took him to obedience classes and he hasn't done it since. I think if it did happen again, I would make sure there wasn't some other reason. His back was out of alignment once, causing him to be in pain.
All that said, I will not have my babies be in a house with a dog that will bite them for no reason, if it came to that we would consider rehoming.

That's where I'm going to have to disagree. I understand they're animals and not a human family member. However, I treat my animals as equals. There's no reason to treat them like "just dogs". They're as much as our family as Kaley is.

  • I think I have an actual UO.

I don't understand people's obsession with paying for my baby's college. I would rather they give us books or clothes or something. That $50 isn't really doing much to pay for $30k a year. We are saving for her college on our own and in addition I don't even feel like it is that important to go to college unless you are studying something that leads to a job. I would rather she go learn a trade than get a general degree unless she is SUPER passionate about it.

And we both have advanced degrees (MBA for me and Masters in Engineering for my husband)

Interesting. I think college is much more about the social experience then the actual education. I didn't need my degree that I earned for my professional career - however, the life/social lessons I learned were pretty essential.

I think I know too many people who are $100k+ in student loan debt with jobs that pay less than $35k. If my husband and I keep accumulating wealth at our current rate, I am more than happy to give our children the luxury of having a good social college experience, but if we are struggling with money at all they need a purpose to get college funded by us.

My husband's parents didn't have enough to pay for most of his college but because he was in engineering he did co-ops so that he could graduate debt free - I wish more people had this option.

  • Going off of the college education thing I think it's weird when parents let their kids live with them well into their twenties and they keep paying their kids bills even when the kid has a full time job. If the person is fully capable of living on their own and just aren't choosing to move cause their parents are paying for everything I don't think that is okay.

Also I don't like bumper stickers that say: Princess, Spoiled, or ***.

This. We bought 2 carseat toys and got a few things from the IL's and my parents, I am thinking about donating some of those too cause she just doesn't need that many.

I think its stupid that people buy really expensive baby clothes. I saw some little girl dresses and onesies that were $50 + today for a 3 month size.. really people? that much for something they will only wear three times and are going to get some kind of bodily fluid on? I don't think so.

And I'm sure I'll hear about this one but I am not opposed to spanking. My parents rarely spanked me but when they did, I deserved it. I remember just about every one and learned my lesson.

I love my dog, but my child is 100x more important to me. If my dog ever hurt someone or my child it would be out the door before you can say "rehome" .... but in saying that, it's the only reason I would ever get rid of her, and I would be really heart broken

Along these same lines, I don't understand why so many babies sleep in the same room as the parents.  I don't get all these questions about transitioning to room/crib/out of RnP.  Aria has been in her room, in her crib, since day one.
