Weight Loss

Is anyone else still losing weight at this point? Asher is 8 months old and I am EBF, but he's also eating solids. I eat everything I see so I know I'm getting enough calories and I still keep losing. I am just wondering if it is because of the breastfeeding or if it could be something else? I am 5'9" and I weighed 140 before I got pregnant and now I'm down to 123. Anyone else have this problem?

Re: Weight Loss

  • Yes. I was also losing more hair than what is normal post-partum, and having shortness of breath, excessive anxiety, and heart palpitations. After some bloodwork, it was discovered that I was in the hyperactive thyroid phase of postpartum thyroiditis. I was also breastfeeding and for awhile mistakenly attributed my dramatic weight loss to that.

  • I am going thru the same thing and I have never breast fed.  I have been to my doctor twice and he just keeps telling me that it is stress/high metabolism.  I don't think so, but our health insurance changed, once I get it back in Feb I plan to go to another doctor and get checked out.  I am 5'2 and weighed 109 when I got pregnant, and now I am down to 105 on a good day after 3 meals.  I really wanted to keep an extra 5 pounds on after I had DD.

I have been to my doctor twice, saying I was having heart palpitations, excessive wieht loss, etc and he did the bloodwork and my thyroid level was fine. Then told me it was my stress level, I told him well I must be a very stressed out mom then.  That is why I am going to seek another doctor in Feb, I have never weighed alot but this is ridicilicous, who loses weight when you eat as much as do! :)

  • Hmm. That's surprising that they didn't find anything wrong with your levels. I'm no doctor but when I was having heart palitations while  was brushing my teeth and ang laying down, I knew something was seriously wrong. If you are having heart palpitationss, I would NOT wait til February.

All I can say is that maybe you should have it checked again just to be sure. Levels can change, and doctors can sometimes make mistakes. Better to be safe.

I have to wait till Feb, I have no health insurance right now.

I even got a copy of my reports so that I can take them to another doctor, I have had issues with this doctor in the past,
