NOTHING against formula feeders... just curious how many are still EBF? If you are, how is it going for you? How is your supply? Is baby gaining well?
My son just lost 1/2 pound, but the dr. didn't seem to care... I didn't think babies were ever supposed to lose weight.
Re: How many still EBF?
I EBF until 9 months (plus solids obviously), and am still breast-feeding now. He might get 2 or 3 formula bottles a week so I guess he's like 90% bf. I do think bf babies gain quicker than formula babies in the first 6 months, but then gain slower in the 2nd 6 months of their first year.
I don't think weight loss is normal, but your dr would know your baby, where he is on the growth chart, etc. If he has been sick or starting to get really active by crawling or walking he might slow down on the gain? Did your dr have an explanation as to why he wasn't concerned?
DS has not gained weight well, but he's kept to his curve (at about 17 percentile). He is crazy active though, he probably burns a lot of calories. I am always worried about it and try to feed him high fat foods like avocado, cheese, etc. I also give him a multivitamin because his iron levels were low (dr.'s recommendation).
I'm still EBF plus solids obviously.
I will for a few more weeks until I go back to work when LO is 12months. Then she'll be on cows milk during the day, and I'll still nurse when we're together.
I didn't think babies were meant to lose weight either, but if your Dr is o with it....then I wouldn't worry unless you think he's sickly in some way.

Im still bf. She's 10 months and gets solids and a tiny bit of wcm in a sippy. My supply has went down but I think that has more to do with her being sick for 10 days and just not eating well.
Babies really shouldn't lose weight. It's normal for their weight gain to slow as they become more mobile, and burn more calories. But they shouldn't lose weight.
I would try to add a feeding or two. Maybe you could do a dream feed before you go to bed, for example. And/or give LO foods with more fat, like avocado, chicken thighs, and cook with olive or canola oil.

Me too! DD just turned 11 months. We're going strong. She eats a lot of solids and BFs plenty. I work all day and she hardly has milk during the day though, but it's no big deal because she BF in the morning plenty and still wakes once (sometimes to eat). She also nurses to sleep every night so I know she's still getting plenty of milk.
My supply has dropped but honestly it's not too bad. I pump once a day at work and get from 5-6 oz. I have over 100 oz in the freezer and I think I might donate again because I don't think i'll be using it with her.
I also don't plan to wean any time soon.

My son is not 9 months yet (8-1/2), but I still EBF. I will EBF until he can start regular milk.
I'm still EBF'ing. I struggle with supply issues moreso around AF. I've been taking More Milk Plus but it only seems to help a little. I've mainly had to dip into my freezer stash when I come up short at the pump.
DS has always been a big boy and continues to gain weight with his growth percentages in the 75% range. He eats solids really well though.
I plan to continue nursing and pumping at work until he's 1 year old then will transition him to cow's milk during the day and nursing at night and in the morning until he's ready to wean himself.
hi, mobile bumping, and on full site so this post is very hard to type.
but i wanted to say my Lo has actually dropped a couple oz since hes been so mobile. my pediatrician told me to add more solids!no supply issues here
Still EBF ~5-6 times a day plus three solid meals. After her first bday I don't know what I'll do, I can't pump at work anymore, but she is still nursing so much when I'm home and I don't really want to cut her off. We will see. I do need to ween her if we are going to try for #2 since we will be doing fertility treatments. Tough choices...
