How many hours a day is your child in childcare?  What hours do they go?

  • I drop off at 7 and pick up around 4. Daycare is open until 5:15 so on days I stay a little late or get stuck in a meeting I have some flexibility.

  • I drop DD off at 7:00 am and pick her up at 4:30 M-Th and some Fridays. SO usually has Fridays off, so he keeps her when he does.

  • DH drops off between 8am-9am, and I pick up at 4pm. I get to work at 6am- it's a very hard schedule for me, but I do it because I don't want DS in daycare for a super long stretch, and I want some quality time with him every day. But I know that I'm lucky because I can set my own schedule.

  • Most days he's dropped off around 7:15 and is always picked up between 5:15 and 5:30.  Some days if DH is WFH he gets brought to school closer to 8.

  • DD is not in daycare but stays with family. I drop her off around 8 at her Granny's house (DH's grandmother) for the first part of the day and then she goes to her Nana & Papa's (DH's parent's house) in the afternoon, DH's parents and grandmother all live on the same property, just different houses. DH picks her up from his parent's at 5, he is also home with her on Fridays (we call it Daddy Day).

  • DS goes to daycare M-F 8:00-5:10.

DH drops him off and I pick-up. Every once in awhile DH will get done with work early and will pick DS up at 4 or 4:30. It happens every 2 weeks or so.

  • When I worked full time, I dropped my daughter off at 7am and would pick her up around 6pm.

I was a SAHM for the first 15 months and had to go back to work because my husband lost our insurance.  He now has a better job and I have been home with our daughter for about a year now.  I love it!  I felt so guilty leaving my daughter in daycare all day.  Although she learned a lot and is very good with other children.  I have her two years in daycare to tank for that.

Now I have her in a 2 day a week Mother's Day Out program.

  • I do a late drop off at 8:30 or 8:45. My husband picks up between 4:30 and 5:00 mon through thu. We just moved closer to work because our son was in school 7:15 to 5:15 and the 10 hour days were too long for him. Other kids might be more resilient but it just wasn't working for our family.

I'm currently a SAHM but I am on bed rest and my OB told me to prepare to end up on BR again in the future. So we planned to enroll DS in daycare, but with DH's schedule he was going to be there almost 10 hours a day. I'm having a really hard time dealing with him going from being with me to daycare for that long of a period.

Our plan was to start him in preschool this fall so he would do 2 half days, then the following year 3 full days to transition him to school where he'll be there all day. I feel like home to a 10 hour day at daycare is going to be a HUGE transition for him.

Have you considered getting a babysitter?  Maybe even for just part of the day since you'll be home?  I don't know if that's feasible for you, but I know someone who did that in your situation and it worked out great.

We did discuss it, but the problem is we live in a really small home with pretty much no backyard. DS needs to get out of the house every day whether it's the park, the kids museum, zoo, just to Target or the bookstore/library, etc. Plus, when DS is home it's so hard for both him and I. He wants me to play with him and do all the normal things I do and I want to get up and hep out.  So having someone come here just isn't a great idea. And I just wasn't comfortable with the thought of someone we barely knew taking my son in the car.

  • My mom watches DD so she's not in daycare but she is home with my mom from 7:30-3:30.  I'm a teacher so I'm off on holidays, weekends, and summers.  My mom comes to our house so it's really a sweet deal for us.  The only issue is DD doesn't get to spend much time around other kids.  But I guess that will change soon.
