UO Thursday

Re: UO Thursday

  • I don't like Taylor Swift's music. My sister got her new cd for Christmas and was like, "Omg! We have to listen to it!" To which I responded, "No we don't!"

I think she is nice and I enjoy watching her interviews, I just can't stand her songs.

  • I don't have the desire to get a DSLR, I have so much fun with my Film SLR (Cannon A1). I love my film and the tricks that can be done with it, I love the A1 a lot, it is my favourite version. I just hate how it is so expensive to develop fim these days, it is expensive to do it in the dark room too (I don't have one set up here anyway).

I may get a DSLR someday but I don't feel I need it. I don't think film is better and I don't think digital is better, just wanted to clarify that I don't have hate towards DSLR.

Agree.  Not sure if you saw her interview on Ellen but she was really strange.  I wouldn't want to hang out with her.

Ugh, amen. I have a "friend" from high school that is really open...too open. Here's her update from last week: "Apartment hallway was empty, screwed 'her boyfriend's name', and it was the best sex we've had yet." UMMMM WHY?!

    Everyone knows I hate T-Swift.

HEY JACK!!! My husband got me addicted to the show. Everyone in my family thinks it's a bunch of rednecks but hey! they're richer than us so I admire them.

Also I detest the obsession with zombies. It's not going to happen; get over it.

We have never watched it until last night.  DH had it on when I came in from doing the dishes.  All I could think the whole time was "really"?  I don't get it lol

Maybe you need a redneck background to get it. I know people like that so I find it hilarious. My dad is one of those people so he thinks its just common everyday stuff. He doesn't realize everyone in the world is not like him lol.

I also hate T-swift, even though her one song is dangerously stuck in my head.

  • I hate seeing professionals of babies wearing only a disposable diaper because it looks like a garbage bag. I'm not referring to spontaneous snap shots, but in photo shoots that people pay $$ for. I love seeing photos with cloth diapers, but sposies are just ugly. I also hate seeing them hanging out of a baby's clothes.

  • Mine is Facebook related as well. For some reason it really bugs me when all that people post are "inspirational" or "motivational" statuses. If I'm having a sh!tty day, your "grass is greener, keep on keepin on" post isn't going to make me feel better. The worst are those workout/fitness ones. "The first mile is the hardest" with a picture of someone's abs underneath...who cares?

  • I see nothing wrong with having a baby nurse, or "night nurse" when you have a newborn (if you can afford it, of course).  I was reading that actress Megan Fox got a lot of flack for saying she hired one.  Who cares?  I would have loved to have someone pick up 1 or 2 feedings at night those first few months.

The philosophical quotes annoy me, but the workout ones don't.

  • 1] I love Duck Dynasty and I was going to say my family isn't a bunch of rednecks, but then I just realized they are. So maybe that's why.

2] I thought the zombie thing was just people joking. ? People really think zombies are going to be roaming the earth one day?! For real??

3] if you were a skankbag in high school and acted a fool, don't post all high and mighty scripture statuses every damn day on Facebook. This girl I went to school with is now posting videos of her religious rants because she thinks people need or want to hear them. You're not a minister. You look stupid. STFU.

  • My parents got Howell an obscene amount of gifts: clothes, stuffed animals and a rocking horse polar bear.

My MIL got him two books, a few special onesies....one with the Chicago flag on it since we are leaving... and a really nice pull toy.

I much prefer MIL's version of Christmas to my parents'. I feel like they just went for quantity any MIL thought about what would be special for her grandson. My parents got him more than we did, even. We got him some toys for sitting up, learning to crawl, books and one sweater.

I sometimes wonder if I was switched at birth because they are so different from me.

Aw.... We had the same but opposite problem. MIL bought too much crap for everyone in kind of a "show off" move. She even gave LO cash money, gift cards, toys, books, blankets.... My head hurts thinking of it all. She went over board with DF and I as well. Way over board. Yes, we are thankful for what they have us, but its not necessary. Their gifts don't show they know us at all, it shows that MIL knows how to use her credit card.

My parents went understated. They did home made gifts and a few things they knew we'd like. We got to spend the whole day with them playing games and talking. I appreciate that SO much more than a million gifts.

Cash? For an infant? MIL put money into a bright start account for Howell's college but would never just give money.

No one can talk over my mother yelling that everyone is doing something wrong at my parents' house. Every year we do Christmas eve to Christmas morning with my parents. Then we drive back and have Christmas dinner at MIL's house. I always breathe a sigh of relief when we get there because people have actual conversations. My mom gets offended about everything so no one talks there.

hmmm.  might just be a matter of family norms.  we actually got cash for her from quite a few people.  most write a note to get something for her, but she doesn't need anything.

we're going to open a UTMA for her and deposit cash given to her into it.  when she's old enough, we'll give her access to a very small amount of it and use it as a tool to teach her the value of saving and growth.

the plan is if she wants something "big" when she's older we'll use some of this account as seed money but then she'll have to save the rest from any allowances, small jobs, etc.

I regularly get into arguments with 2 if my friends about which is more likely to happen... a zombie apocalypse or a robot apocalypse? They swear up and down zombie. The question says which is more likely.. Not what do you want to happen. I always say robot because all the technology out there is pretty much robotic in some way and we are so dependent on it to begin with.

My UO... I hate how all these celebrity moms look so amazing after having babies. I'm talking, 3 or 4 months PP and they look like they never even popped out a kid. I still jiggle in places I didn't know I could.

I guess some of it has to be who and why. When my friend's baby was baptized, we brought a check. But I think cash is the norm for baptisms in my family. From close family at Christmas, I prefer thoughtful gifts though.

  • Zombie Apocalypse has already happened. Take a drive to your local meth head hang out. They are just as scary looking, brainless and desperate as the next zombie.

Taylor Swift is annoying. Dont get me wrong, I'm purely jealous to boot. She looks amazing, writes records her own music and she's a gazillionaire. She needs to give up the poor me songs though.

Night nurses are fabulous. Folks who dont like them, IMO, are just jealous they didn't have one. Perhaps. Or control freaks.

My UO is thrift store baby toys. Especially when given as gifts and are visibly dirty. I like to save money as much as anyone but, wash that sh!t. If its soft and will fit in the washer, wash it! If it's plastic, soak it in Clorox Clean up, water and wash it! Don't assume I have time to wash it either. I will simply take it right back to the same thrift store for them to make money on it.....twice.

Can you tell that the babies got some used, nasty, thrift store toys for Christmas? Gross.

I am afraid of hippos. I once had a dream where a hippo ate me alive. Baby hippos are super cute, then suddenly they're terrifying. I'm never going near an African river, ever.

Cabbage is a terrible plant. People need to stop pretending that it's food. It's just wax paper that grows in the ground. At least the Germans and Koreans have the good sense to pickle the sh!t out of it before they consume it.

  • I only skimmed through page one so Idk if this has been said already today but my UO is that I think sleep training and schedules arent necessary right now. I think that they will form into their own schedule and sleep training should start if the LO is still struggling to get into their own routine beyond the age of 6 months..maybe 9. Why so soon? I understand working moms and husbands but I work full time and so does DH and we do just fine letting our babe do his own thing. If he wakes to eat he eats, if he doesnt nap or sttn - what can you do (other than get frustrated, really)? I know a lot of yall are pro sleep training and schedules so I guess that why this makes it an UO.

I agree with Taylor Swift. I used to be obsessed when she first came out (embarrassed to admit) but now her music is crap and beyond annoying. She also looks like a rat.

If your full time job was to look good and you had a team of chefs, trainers, plastic surgeons and nannies to help make it happen, I'm sure you'd look as good as they do!

Celebrities in no way represent reality for most women. I think if we reminded ourselves of that we would have so much more self confidence, and would spend way less time holding ourselves to an impossible standard. Hopefully I can teach DD this. I hate that our celebrity worshipping culture is so hard on young girls, and grown women.

This is true, I wish I had money! Lol

I in no way am saying that I condone needing to have the body image of one of those celebrities. I hate that aspect of our society as well.
