First appointment

So today I finally called the doctor to let them know I was pregnant.  My first appointment is scheduled for Jan 21st.  So 4 weeks out.  That will put me at 8 weeks.  No blood work or anything before then.  My temps are still up and so far I am feeling pretty good.  I wish I could get an appointment earlier but I am okay with 8 weeks.  If we make it to that I will be so excited.  We will have and ultrasound that day as well.  I cant wait to see my little bean and its heartbeat.  Up until know it really didnt feel real.  I am finally starting to let this sink in and get a little excited about being pregnant.  Although I am still being very cautious with this all I am very hopeful everything will go smoothly this time around.

When is everyone elses appointments?

Re: First appointment

  • With your other early losses I'm kind of surprised they don't want to see you earlier. Is your doctor aware of them?

I won't have an appt before 8 weeks either, so I know how you feel with that one. I haven't even called my doctor yet.

Fingers crosses that the next 4 weeks go fast for you and you have a great appt on the 21st.  :)

  • Yes my doctor is aware of my losses.  I called and spoke to her nurse this morning who is awesome.  I really love my doctor and her nurse.  She told me to just start prenatal vitamins and to take it easy and drink plenty of water.  She said if I had any problems or question/concerns to just give her a call and if  I thought I needed to come in sooner she would take care of that for me.  Right now I don't really see a need to go in sooner other than I would love to see an ultrasound but I am okay with waiting it out.  I had lots of cramping with my first one so if I get to that point again I will probably call and go in just to check things out.  So far I am feeling great.  I hope it stays that way and 4 weeks goes by fast.  :-)

  • Ok, that's good.  In that case I hope that nothing happens that makes you feel like you need to go in sooner and that the 4 weeks are a breeze.  :)

  • I scheduled mine today as well. I will go January 14. That will put me at 7 weeks exactly. This is my first time so I am a little nervous. Do any of the momma of the mommas out there know what the first appointment will consist of? Is there anything I should do in advance or bring with me?
  • Its been almost 4 years since I did this so I am kinda fuzzy on the memory - but pretty much it should be some questions on the start of your last period to get a EDD, maybe some family history and blood work, then an ultrasound to see how everything looks and how far along your measuring.  We then met with the NP and went over what to expect and what test they will do at what points in time.  A lot of info is given at the first appointment.  At lest this is what I remember.  LOL

Thanks. DH's new job is a huge blessing that allows me to be a sahm.

Unfortunately, there's no recommendation to get for medical care in the area. :( DD is seeing the only pediatrician. Thankfully he's great. His wife is actually the local le leche leader and one of my first friends in the area. He's super supportive of our parenting choices. The only OBs are a practice of three that deliver at the tiny local hospital. Unless I want to travel or have a home birth, I have to see them. I hear mixed reviews on them. Thankful most are fairly positive, but I wish I could see the CNMs that treated me during dd's pregnancy. They were awesome.

ETA: I called and scheduled an appointment for Jan. 4.

  • Congratulations! I also scheduled my first OB appointment today. I am 4 weeks and 2 days and I am scheduled for January 15th. I am so excited-a little nervous though with it being so far away (3 weeks but feels like a lifetime!) They plan to perform an ultrasound on that day too. I hope things continue to go well for everyone on the boards. Big Smile
  • I just called to make mine. With my doctor, I wouldn't have been able to go in until Feb. 4th! I had to schedule with a different doctor b/c my PGAL brain can't handle waiting until 10 weeks.

My first appointment is Jan. 2nd.

At my first prenatal appointment I gave them family medical history for both sides, discussed if my medical history has an impact on the pregnancy, talk about what tests they do when, take blood work, did a pelvic exam and pap smear.  Our appointment was relatively long compared to a regular Dr. appointment b/c they give time to ask questions and they give you a lot of info.

You and I are EDD buddies - that would make you just 5 weeks next week right? Is that early?
