Hi ladies...it's my first time on this board. So a couple of months ago I swear I was pregnant because I was 10 days late, but I wasn't. I ended up attaching myself to another coworker's cycle. Now this month I had some unprotected sex the night of the day my period stopped. During this time I also had a pretty hard core head cold. So, that was Dec 8 th. since then I have had light- headed ness and nausea. I think it's too early to do a pregnancy test. The last few months I start on the 3rd of the month. However, I am emotionally, tired and nauseous. Maybe I just have some more head cold symptoms. So, I guess I am looking to you all for your experiences and guidance. Has anyone taken a home pregnancy test before missed period and have been pregnant? Maybe I am making up the nausea? Maybe it's from my head cold?
Re: Sick or first signs of pregnancy
If the only day you had unprotected sex was the day your period ended I'd vote for not pregnant.
But for crying out loud, just take a test!
If you ovulated very early this cycle (which is incredibly improbable the week of your period but for argument's sake) you'd be far enough past ovulation to take a test. For a hypothetical timeline--you had sex on the 8th, ovulation occured around the 11th. You'd be 13dpo today which means you could take a test and count on the results. Wait until tomorrow morning and take it with your first morning urine.
I think the chances you are pregnant are slim to none, but if you want to rule out pregnancy just take a test. If it's negative, your symptoms are due to cold season since if you're pregnant enough for symptoms you're pregnant enough for a bfp.

You need to learn how your body works.
Progesterone is the hormone that is produced after you ovulate every cycle. It's the hormone that causes "pregnancy type symptoms" like nausea, sore boobs, etc. If you are nearly two weeks prior to your expected period date (you said you've got "a few days til the 6 day test" so I'm estimating here), there is no way in hell that they are pregnancy symptoms. IF you managed to conceive, the embryo does not implant til around day 6 past ovulation. Symptoms from HCG in your body wouldn't start for at least 36 hours after that, although even that early is rare. You're probably experiencing a surge of progesterone.
It would serve you well to go to fertilityfriend.com and take the tutorials as well as read Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Just because you started on the 3rd of a calendar month a couple times does not mean you're "late" because AF shows on the 10th of a calendar month.
Pre-period symptoms and early pregnancy symptoms are basically the same. It's too hard to which is which until you get a BFP or start your period.
Unless you know when you ovulated, it's impossible to know when your period should start. I have gotten early BFNs that turned into positives after a few days. Generally you should wait a week and test again. I'm not that patient, so I'd go and pick up a few test from the Dollar Store and POAS with FMU.
If you've been sick that can totally throw off your ovulation. Follow Debate's advice and check out those resources.
