Let's talk about sleep regression

So I have seen the term "sleep regression" thrown around here quite a bit lately. Is this something that usually happens around 4 months? Our LO was a ROCKSTAR sleeper (7:30-6am or later) and all the sudden he has issues going to sleep and then once he is alseep he wakes up between 4:45-5:30am! This morning there was NO getting him back down and I finally just get him up and then he wants to go back for a nap 20 minutes later. What the heck? I know he's not ready to get up for the day, but he just doesn't want to sleep. I try feeding him....but no go. He IS still swaddled, could he be sick of the swaddle? Or is this just a phase they go through where they dont like to sleep as much?

  • We're still about 3 weeks deep in this sleep regression. It's gotten better; we've gone from waking 15 times per night to about 3 or 4. Sometimes we have a good night and he goes back to waking once.

Still looking forward to the night I can get a solid 6 hours of sleep instead of 3 [4 if I'm really lucky].

  • The 4 month regression was horrible for us and lasted an entire month. Be happy you aren't up 9 times per night, which was the norm for us. Hope it gets better for you.

  • Yep, happened to us too..we are on week four. He want from sleeping 8pm to 6am without waking up once to waking up two or three times a night. It's just because their brains are developing rapidly and they're discovering all sorts of new things...so I just keep telling myself that at least he's developing on track...at 3am.

Uh, if waking up once is your LO's version of the 4 month wakeful, consider yourself extremely lucky. Lately a good night has been when DD wakes every 3 hours. She used to do a 6 or 7 hour stretch.

Last night after fighting it hard, she went down at 8, fussed at 9, ate at 11 and 2, then was up from 4 to 5, ate at 6, fussed at 7, up for the day at 8. Other mamas on here have had far worse nights than this during the wakeful.

This was after fighting naps all day and turning into a super cranky maniac from about 5 on.

    Merry Christmas to me...

Eta: sorry that came across so snarky. I blame sleep deprivation. Seriously though. Moms whose LO's STTN are not allowed to complain about waking once or twice a night. Can we make that a board rule or something?!

Salty, I love this. I can't imagine complaining about once a night but I know how bad it can get...this month kicked. my. butt.
