Roseola?

My DD had fever on and off for 4 days (max 102) and today she woke up with a rash on her trunk and side of the face. Took her to the doctor and she said it could be roseola...but I always heard Roseola causes a super high fever! I trust the doctor but just wanted to see if anyone has had the same symptoms for roseola. Thanks!

Re: Roseola?

  • My son had that once.  His fever got to like 102 or 103.  It wasn't like scarily high.

  • My nephews had the exact same thing. It sounds like roseola to me.

  • Our LO had what was originally thought to be chicken pox when he was 11 months old, fever was highest 103, turned out to be roseola they told us, but that there are so many viruses that cause rashes it could be anyone of those viruses that caused it

  • DD had it but she had a super high fever (104.5) and then once the fever broke the rash started, within 12 hours she had the classic roseola rash.

It's probably possible, or it could be some other virus.

  • DD got it and the highest her fever go was right under 103. Our Pedi said the rash is very easy to tell if it is Roseola or not.

  • DD1 had it a while back and her fever was around 103 for 3 days before breaking out in a rash.

  • DS had Roseola, and he had a fever beforehand but I don't believe it went super high at all. Also, everything I had read said that the rash would start after the fever had broken, but his started a day before it broke.

  • The telltale sign of roseola is that the rash appears AFTER the fever breaks. It's the only virus where this is true. If that's what happened, and the rash went away quickly, it was probably roseola and I wouldn't worry about it.

That said, DD had a crazy high fever with it: 104.4. And she just looked really, really ill. It was really scary for a while.

  • our LO had Roseola as well..days after her 102 fever. It ended up going away in a few days so just hang tight. The good news is the hard part (fever) is over.

  • DD has also had Roseola and never had a super high fever. She did have a consistent 100-102 fever for a few days. When the fever broke, the rash appeared. The rash went away about a week later.
