Breastfeeding

My nips/boobs are on fire. :(

They seriously hurt all the time it seems, but right after a feeding or a pumping, they seriously feel like they are on fire.  Painful tingling, the nips are super sensitive, and nothing helps.  I just have to suck it up and deal with the pain.  Has anyone else experienced this?  Any suggestions for alleviating the pain or maybe to keep it from happening?

  • Mine don't necessarily feel like they're on fire, but I was just going to post something about nipple soreness... I'm wondering how long it lasts?  I'm not really having pain after the first 5-10 seconds of feeding, but they're so sensitive I can't even touch them with the towel after I shower!  Hoping it doesn't last much longer... I don't want to keep buying soothies - they're expensive!

  • definitely sounds like thrush to me. i had it twice. you need to get some nystatin if you can get to your dr, some will prescribe diflucan which is better. and your lo should be treated also, even if there are no signs. also, changing your bra daily, sterilize all pacis/bottles. its hard to get rid of, but you can also google home remedies. theres an over the counter thing called gentian violet that is supposed to work amazing but i never used it... good luck!
  • I had that feeling from 2 weeks PP to about 6 weeks PP.  Then it got much better.  I think it was just my nips getting used to BF'ing.  Soothies are awesome.  So is Earth Mama Angle Baby Nipple cream or Mother Love nipple cream.  Apply diligently after each feeding/pumping and then use a cloth pad to allow your nips to breath.

  • Slather your nips in lanolin or nipple butter! Seriously coat them before a shower. Cold gel packs in your bra if you can stand it. I found that wearing breast pads all the time helped as they were softer than my raw nips on my bra. Cut holes in an old tshirt and wear a pumping bra or no bra underneath. I did this!

I swear it gets better. I'm 7 months PP and I could probably drag my nips over concrete now. Haha!
